	the code for the DVD MALATA DVP-393 is as following Click Bottom Eject, keep the tray out,click "Title" key,then click "previous" key,contiune click "Next"key, it will be appeared "Region Code Free status. ( 0 ) Dr.MUERTE (ARG.)

	Click EJect, keep the tray out, click "Title" key, then click "previous" key, then click"Next" key. In the top left hand corner will be appear "Region Code Input", after that you can select "0" to change it as Code Free status.

	the code for the DVD MALATA DVP-393 is: Click Eject, keep the tray out,click "Title" key,then click "previous" key (\|<<),continue click "Next" key (>>\|), (maybe more than once). You will see "Region code <1>" (or whatever is the region currently). Then enter "0" for region free. I did this on a Region 1 unit I got from FutureShop in Vancouver, Canada. Can now watch my region 2 and region 1 DVD's. Nice compact unit at a bargain price. Thanks for all your help.

	I just recently bought a Malata 393 - unfortunately I bought it from a pawnshop, and will not be able to return it. I tried the hack cited in earlier postings: tray out; depress first the previous and the forward keys to bring up region 1. Finally enter 0. When I attempted to play Region 2 PAL DVDs I had no luck whether I was using the most basic RCA analogue connectors; the S video jack or the component output. The picture simply zoomed up and down (the PAL effect, no doubt). When I tried playing my Region 3 NCTS DVDs (eg. any number of Shaw Bros./Celestial Pictures items), then I was successful. However, if I cannot succeed with Region 2 PAL DVDs (my full size Malata 520 DVD player has no such problems), I shall be most disappointed.
