I recently bought the MDV421SL and the above hack worked great. Before I could not watch movies from other regions and now I can just fine. Just be sure that you power the machine on with no disc, open the tray, and then apply the hack. If you do not have the tray open the above hack will not work. | |||

Just a simple note to clarify the hack. With the tray open, push 9, 9, 9, 9 and then the region code, slowly. You can use 0 to play any region, but for those with special feature discs, you may want to set the actual region. With my region 2 discs, when I have the player set to region 0 it won't go to the DVD menu, but if I set it to region 2, it will. Very useful since I have collector's DVDs with special features. So, again, 9, 9, 9, 9, 0 for region 0, 9, 9, 9, 9, 1 for region 1, 9, 9, 9, 9, 2 for region 2, etc. | |||

Thanks to everybody on this GREAT SITE!!!!!! It takes not more than 3 minutes and NO headaches to hack the MDV 421. I followed the instructions: open tray 9,9,9,9,0 on the remote and : REGION 0 appears on the screen. Done, se fini! Thanks guys! | |||

This hack does work so enjoy. I'd like to add that if you get REGION 0 PAL DVD's that they should play on most machines. I have a 5-disc Sony player that doesn't have a hack and they work. My 3rd Rock from the Sun discs play great and they're PAL REGION 0. You can keep your NTSC setting on the player also in the menu features. I actually had it on multi and they didn't work but when put back to NTSC they did. | |||
