Region code hack posted by JD, July 21 2007: | |||
This Modification is explicitely for the ============================================================ ---LOEWE AURO 9006 DD--- [firmware: (c) '98-'99 6.2 000111 P2 3.26.5] ============================================================ but should/will do well (without any warranty!) - for all other LOEWE DVD players that are originally made by PHILIPS (Xemix 5006 and others) - *AND* are mentioned to be hacked by entering codes starting with "PLAY-numbers-..." - *AND* have firmware generation 6.2 (how to check? Read the end of the article!). - *AND* (this is for sure) have not been MODIFIED MORE THAN 24 times before (CAUTION: players will be LOCKED after 25 modifications in the last state!)! ***CAUTION: By doing THIS modification, You lose one "functionality" of the player! It is the "Change country" sub-menu selection list in the "Access control" setup. I never used this and I'm quite confident, that hardly anyone else in the world ever will... I don't know if this renders the whole "case sensitive Child lock system" useless, but as I have never seen any DVD featuring this, I consider it useless anyway... So I don't care at all! ***CAREFUL: If You use other codes than the mentioned ones, weird/unwanted effects can occur! ============================================================ ***Do the following steps!*** 1. Turn on the player without any disc inserted. Wait until the display reads "NO DISC". 2. With the remote control enter the following code: PLAY - 2 - 7 - 4 The display reads: - - - - - - - - - - - (11 dashes), the player is now ready to accept codes. 3. Enter the following code (12 digits): 1 - 0 - 1 - 0 - 4 - 0 - 0 - 0 - 0 - 1 - 4 - 0 The display shows the entered code minus the last digit (the display is only 11 digits long!) and a dot to the left of that (this dot appears the moment You enter the twelfth digit). ***This far nothing really happens to Your player, so now comes the POINT OF NO RETURN! To NOT change Your player, POWER OFF NOW!*** 4. Press PLAY and wait! The display changes to: 10100000000, the screen on Your TV turns blue for a short time, the player goes to standby. ============================================================ If You power it up again Your player definitely IS able to play any disc from regions 1 AND 2 (at least all such DVDs I own) and SHOULD also be able to play discs from regions 3 and 5 (I have no such DVDs)! It is therefore NOT completely region-free! [To my knowledge true region freedom can ONLY be programmed with remote controls capable of sending the IR command RC6, codeset 4, key 235! Just start googleing around...] ***Explanations for this hack - if You are in doubt or (like me) interested in things, keep on reading!*** The simple reason: The LOEWE AURO 9006DD in fact is a PHILIPS DVD 950! (Compare the manuals to check it! The Philips manual is freely available at philips.com and also more elaborate than the manual provided by LOEWE...) As a proof that I'm not talking rubbish: Try the "diagnostic program" (yes it's in the LOEWE too)! 1. Unplug (yes, You have to remove the power cord) Your player, leave it unplugged for ~10 s just to be sure (loaded capacitors etc.). 2. Reconnect power and immediately (that means before the player starts up and goes to standby - yes there is a short delay - and yes the Philips manual says to hold the buttons from below while reconnecting, but with the LOEWE one would need a third hand to do it that way!) 3. Press and hold together the eject and pause button until the display shows "BUSY" and a counter that counts down from 10 to 0 (this takes some time, then the display should show "PASS" and better not "ERROR"). 4. To leave the progam unplug the power cord (no other inputs are accepted here) and reconnect it. Done! To add some more FUN: These players can be turned into each other by entering certain codes - don't laugh, it's the truth and it's no magic at all! If the mechanics are the same, would You program different firmware? Exactly! So in case You're bored of that gray LOEWE screen background (and have a Philips DVD 950 remote control or a programmable universal one at hand) or just want to see this with Your own eyes: Do the programming just as shown above, but start the modification by entering: PLAY-1-5-9. Enjoy Your "all new" region(1-2-3-5)-free Philips DVD 950 (that will not really work great with Your LOEWE remote control)! To get back to LOEWE (using Your LOEWE remote control) repeat the modification, but with PLAY-2-7-4... ***To see which firmware is currently running Your player, do the following!*** 1. Enter the On Screen Display (OSD) 2. Go to the leftmost menu item 3. Enter the lowest menu page containing "Access control"/"Status Window"/"Low power standby" 4. Move to "Low power standby" and press the down button once more. The current firmware version will be displayed. |
