Press the HOME button on the remote, go to Setup and select Start. From the TV options go to TV Aspect and highlight the 16:9 Wide option (must be 16:9 0ption). Now enter 1397139 using the number keys to access the system configuration information. To change the values of these options hit the ENTER button and then use the left/right arrow keys to select OPTION 5. Change it's current value to ff using the up/down keys. Now power off with the remote and then power back on. Your recorder should now be region free. To check go back into the system configuration information where Region Code should now be 0. Was the hack for RC299H, works fine with RC389H.

I have tried all the methods found on these pages, but none work for my LG DR389 (Region 2). None of the 4 here or at http://www.videohelp.com/dvdhacks/lg-dr389/9190 where file http://aiwaownersnetwork.tripod.com/pages/lg/5000_series_firmware.html of message 2 is missing. Those hacks DO NOT WORK. Please correct the reports. denis DOT baggi AT supsi DOT ch

The process described by katratzi and CD1 worked on my RC389H, purchased in January 2010, but only with the following addition: After resetting Option 5 to ff, press "enter" on the remote, then "return", then "off", then "on". It would also be a useful precaution, before starting the resetting, to write down the original settings for all the options. |
