I have just used the CD hack as advised on this site for the LG dvx350. works fine.

The stock Tesco are selling are Region Free but not sold as such. Check the 'Setup' on your machine before burning a hack cd you might not need. Sounds obvious but I didnt, assumed I needed a hack and had a frustrating time that I could have avoided! Apologies if this no-hack message offends the rules.

Bought my DVX492H from Tesco - unfortunately it wasn't region-free out of the box like the previous correspondent found. However, as the other correspondent reported, the CD hack for a different model of DVD player works perfectly. I've mirrored it here:

http://www.box.net/shared/v07pyb4e9x

It's a tiny file; the hack is an 11 byte ASCII file two directory levels deep on a CD-ROM. Instructions are in a text file in the archive.

For the LG DV492h, the ISO disc is not required. Just eject the disc tray, and while it's open hit 0 - 0 (two zeros) on the remote. Then enter 0 for the region code (for all regions.)

The latest DVX492H I bought for my MIL at Tesco was not region free and its been hard work finding a hack that works for a simple guy like me.

So in case another struggling soul reads this, here is what worked for me, a true idiots guide.

Step 1. I downloaded the file recommended in a forum as ‘the generic LG hack’ from http://www.multi-region.net/_media/lg5000.zip I think this lg5000.zip was available from other links too, but it was here yesterday so why shop around? (Sorry I cant do links but cut and paste this address.)

Step 2. I unzipped the compressed file using the unzip icon that was offered on the screen alongside the zipped folder, this revealed a folder called RMTM0000

Step 3. I opened up my Nero burning package, selected ‘burn data cd’, dragged the whole RMTM0000 folder into Nero and pressed the ‘burn’ button at 40x

Step 4. I turned on my LG DVX492H player, opened the drawer, inserted the burned cd, and closed the drawer.

Step 5. Automatically a blue screen appeared revealing current Region Code was 2 and inviting me to pick another from a full list – obviously I picked 0. The instruction as I recall then said ‘press pause to exit’.

Step 6. I opened the tray removed the cd and inserted a Region 1 dvd and it played fine.

Whoopee! What I particularly liked was the simplicity, the forums for this machine are littered with people editing downloaded files, re-sequencing the files, going off to study supplemental FAQs, following YOU TUBE video guides and downloading specialist burning software etc – very complicated.

All I did was to download from the site, unzip on the screen that appeared and dragged the unzipped folder from the next screen that replaced it into Nero. No digging around looking for folders on my HD it all played out before my eyes one screen leading to the next.
