This is a VCD Hack for the LG 5253 DVD Player. This will play VCD version 2.0 . Okay first of all before I did it, I was nervous if it will work, will my DVD F*** Up. Do the following key presses on the remote and bingo your player will be ready. Note: There is no time limit on how quick you press the buttons. Press each command carefully. Switch on your DVD Player till you are at the big DVD logo. 1)Press PAUSE 2)Press 1, 4, 7, 2 3)You will now enter a new technical screen. 4)Press UP three times . 5)Press PROGRAM, 6, PROGRAM, 5 6)Press ENTER You will see a flash of a few numbers at the top of the screen. When they have ..OFF the DVD Player. Then ON again. You LG DVD 5253 Player is ready to play Version 2.0 VCD. | |||

Used the following to get it to play VCD not tried SVCD yet. But VCD 1.0 and 2.0 works! 1. Power on the player with no disc in the drive. 2. Press Pause on the remote control. 3. Using the remote control, key in the following: 1, 4, 7, 2 (the characters 01 47 should appear on the display) [If your player is a non UK model, this number will probably be different - don't worry] 4. Press the UP arrow three times (the characters 04 Fd should appear on the display) [This number may be different depending on the configuration of your specific model - don't worry] 5. Press Program, 6, Program, 5 (the characters 04 FE should now be displayed). 6. Press Enter (the display should flash briefly). 7. Press Return. 8. Power the player off and then back on. 9. svcd playback This hack is from the guy Reginald posted earlier before on this site. It works great for me. At point 3 my player shows a different number.I have a europe player But it was no problem. SVCD hack - def works! I had previously applied the VCD hack quoted many times on this forum, which worked fine for VCD 2.0, but did not read SVCD discs (just got screen message 'check disc'. Then I applied hack shown below (found on another site) which worked. Svcd (XVCD - XSVCD) hack: 1. Power on, no disc in drive 2. Press "Pause" on the remote 3. Enter 1 4 7 2 (01 47 should display now) 4. Press up-arrow six times 5. Press "Program" 5 ; "Program" 6 ; "Program" 5 6. Press "Enter" 7. Press "Return" 8. Power off and back on 9. Play a SVCD | |||

I would like to say a BIG THANKS to JJ, not only for sending me the CD containing the hack code but also for taking the time & trouble to follow up with a phone call & emails checking it worked. GREAT NEWS, it worked FIST TIME, thanks JJ!! In the spirit of us all helping each other, if anybody out there wants me to pass on the CD, please let me know, all you have to do is use it & pass it on to somebody else in need. Comment on VCD hack: I first tried the hack explained by P. Willock. My screen went green as well! Solved it by restoring the code. After the code 1472 you find yourself in a code menu. In the middle of the screen appear pairs of letters/digits. As I said the seventh pair (you can indeed select it by pressing the up arrow) should not be EF as P.Willock explains, so I changed it to 00 again (program 0, program 0). Then I tried the hack of Reginald and Gundai: change pair 4 by pressing the up arrow. Factory setting is DC, change it by pressing program 6 and program 5, same as mentioned by Reginald and Gundai. press enter and return, switch off and on and there you go. The hack works!! | |||
