	This hack is NOT for the Koss KD250. It is for the KD260-2 but may work with the KD250. Enabling playing VCDs: You have to enable the VCD function by first inserting a regular audio CD, then when it starts playing press stop and wait for the menu to appear. On the numeric keypad of the remote control press the number 1, 5 and 9 buttons in sequence. The VCD enable menu will appear. Again on the remote control, press the number 1 button to enable the VCD function. Press the Disc Eject button to remove the Audio CD and end the programming. The KD-260 will now accept and play VCD's. -- FireSoul

	Koss KD250 hacks - all I have found - Enable VCD/SVCD - Region Selection: 1-6 or All Regions - Erase Password - Reset to Factory Defaults - Drawer Lock - Self Test - Display Firmware Info. - Update DVD Firmware All of these were tested on my KD250. They work. Enable VCD/SVCD ------------------------------ Load/play a music CD Using remote press STOP press MENU press 1 press BOOKMARK (right of PAUSE key at bottom) press OPEN (top center button) screen says "Enable VCD: 1-Yes / 2-No" press 1 screen flashes "Enable VCD" VCD will also now appear under TV-aspect menu ------------------------------------------------------------ My experience When I first enabled it I have been able to play a number of different SVCDs burned on CD-R. I played the entire 2-CD Daredevil SVCD movie. TaeBo workout SVCDs, etc. Now it will not play and I have not been able to figure out why. I suspect the following is the problem . . . NOTE from another poster Other hack posted by jay at January 28 2003: The above hack does work but you will find that you can only play original VCD's or ones that are recorded on to a CD-RW, 99% of Oritron (Koss) DVD players cannot read CDR due to the quality of the laser, The same is true for music CD's as well (Only original or CD-RW) ENDNOTE I think original CDs and CD-RWs are burned at a higher laser power resulting in a deeper burn that the less powerful reading laser in the Koss/Oritron players can read. My relative newbie informed guess. ------------------------------------------------------------ Region Selection: 1-6 or All Regions ------------------------------ With no disk in player Using remote press MENU press 1 press 6 press 7 screen says "Key 1-6 for region:" press 1 thru 6 for one region or press MUTE for All (MUTE is top right button) screen will flash "All" Note: Remember that different regions use different formats. You may need to change your defaults under TV-aspect in the MENU. Erase Password ------------------------------ Start with player off press and hold OPEN/CLOSE button on front panel press POWER switch screen flashes "PASSWORD ERASE OK" Reset to Factory Defaults ------------------------------ This will erase all changes you have made Start with player off press and hold PLAY button on front panel press POWER switch to turn on player screen will flash "WHOLE EEPROM ERASED" screen then says "Press '1' for English, '2' for..." etc. select your language everything should now be back to factory defaults Drawer Lock --------------------------- This locks/unlocks CD drawer Used to prevent removal of CD To Lock CD drawer: Insert CD (if you want) Using remote press MENU press 2 press 4 press 6 screen says "Dealer lock 1/UnLock, 2/Lock" press 2 screen flashes "Lock" CD drawer will not open To UnLock CD drawer: Using remote press MENU press 2 press 4 press 6 screen says "Dealer lock 1/UnLock, 2/Lock" press 1 screen flashes "UnLock" CD drawer will now open again Self Test ------------------------------ Start with player off press and hold PLAY and STOP on panel press POWER switch player will cycle through tests in display Display Firmware Info. ------------------------------ With no disk in player Using remote press MENU press MENU screen will display info mine says: Macrovision firmware Pal/NTSC Version 007 Software checksum 26D6B6D7 Software date code 011212 FE version TUM502 2A304220 Update DVD Firmware ------------------------------ Open DVD drawer Insert CD-R/CD-RW with file "download.bin" Do not close drawer yet Using remote press MENU press 7 press 6 press 0 screen says "Update Software 1/Yes, 2/No" press 1 to upgrade press OPEN/CLOSE to close drawer screen and display will show "reading" after 30 seconds or so a color bar will appear press POWER switch to turn off player wait 1-15 seconds press POWER to turn player back on remove disk Where to get a firmware update file? I don't know. Anyone? Macrovision hack I searched far and wide. Have not found anything.
