DVD Player Hacks Updated Add
JVC XV-LTR1

PostOther hack posted by Glendon Gross, February 04 2004:

This is a "hack in progress", or an incomplete hack.

My JVC XV-LTR1 often refuses to play DVD's, giving the message "NO DISC" in the display. Then if I turn it off and let it sit for about 30 minutes, it will sometimes play the DVD. It also displays "NO DISC" when I try to play CD-ROM's.

I discovered that when I unplug it and hold "OPEN/CLOSE" and "PLAY" while plugging the power cord back in, the display shows "TEST" and then it shows:

TEST J4 1

At this point, pressing FF (>>) causes the drive
to spin and it displays:

0000 0000

From here on, pressing the numbers "9" and "6" on my generic remote control produces changes in the display,
evidently incrementing a hexadecimal address. For
example, after doing the above and then pressing "9":

0070 0000

Pressing "9" again on the remote produces:

0071 0000

and each time you press "9", the hex number increments
by 1.

This is still a "hack in progress" as I do not yet have
all the information about how to use the above steps to
re-enable the player. I will post additional information as I discover it.
