Out of the box my US-model was able to play both NTSC and PAL disks but only region 1. I applied the hack posted by Erik now both RC1 and RC2 DVDs play just fine. I don't have any DVDs from other regions to test if these would work as well.

Eric's hack WORKS PERFECT - I CONFIRM! Hi To everyone who hesitate to use Eric's hack. I have just burned a CD image with firmware and performed an upgrade with my Denon 2200 (European PAL version with region 2). The results are as I expected: - it plays both Region 1 & 2 discs - it provides PAL & NTSC progressive signals - SACD discs plays perfect as before as well as DVD-Audio - with PAL discs the "chroma bug" effect seems less visible (the difference is especially seen when playing VIDEO-type material like rock concerts, I have compared one of the most significant examples of this type: K.Minogue - Live in Manchester,Kylie Fever 2002) My Panasonic wall projector detects progressive signals as: - 625P for PAL discs - 525P for NTSC discs The panel displays in test*) mode after an upgrade performed shows this information about firmware: DRV 030728 B/E 6500H Panel D018-f It just works perfect, big THX Eric! *) You can read a firmware version installed in your Denon player by pressing simultaneously front panel buttons: OPEN & PLAY while powering up the player by pressing POWEN switch. After that using a remote control MENU button you can switch between these information.

I just received it from a kind soul who was willing to share it (from VideoHelp.com forums), and here it is as one good turn deserves another: ftp://69.104.83.77/pub/Denon-DVD-2200.zip The file inside is a Nero Image -- sorry, that's all I have. Happy modding! (P.S. Put burned CD w/image in drive, play the disc, then once update is complete power unit on/off and all should be well. Use of this is STRICTLY at your own risk, but it worked great on mine! Thanks Zachary!!)
