PostRegion code hack posted by Bruno Gagnon, November 11 2003:

Happy to be te first to post a hack on P871 (great machine by the way). After several trials and errors here it is:

1)Turn-on with remote
2)Press setup
3)Go to preference page
4)Type 1379
you will see the region on an gray overlay at the center of the screen
5)Change the number to 0 with down cursor.

Et voila!!
You can then check to see the region by going to any other menu then typing 1379. The last line on the overlay will say the region. I was not able to modify any other seting for now....

This hack doesn't seem to work for me. Agfter pressing 1379 the Down cursor doesn't do anything. Are there any other key combinations that you pressed?

By down cursor you mean the Down arrow on the remote right below "PLAY" button?

PostRegion code hack posted by Bruno Gagnon, November 12 2003:

Yes that exactly what I mean.
But we should take this conversation off-line.

Fell free to email me.

PostRegion code hack posted by Bruno Gagnon, November 14 2003:

MAKE SURE YOU GO TO THE PREFERENCE PAGE BEFORE PRESSING 1379. Then the UP - DOWN keys will work.
Inless your version is not the same. Then I am really sorry. This hack does work.

Thanks.

Bruno

PostRegion code hack posted by ben, November 14 2003:

down cursor doesn''t work for me either

PostOther hack posted by Vlad, November 20 2003:

You can type 1379 on the first page of the setup menu to get all kind of version codes/info...any thoughts?
The region code doesn't work on mine either, very dissapointing. I read somewhere that holding 1 while loading the DVD worked for someone, not verified though. Mine is ver 2.1.

PostRegion code hack posted by Sam Ontario, November 22 2003:

Cannot change from "1" to "0" or any other no. It does not work for my Daytek P781.

PostRegion code hack posted by tedocan, November 27 2003:

en appuyant plusieurs fois sur "1", ça marche.

merci Ben

cuz that hack only displays the Region code on the Preference page but you can't change it with the remote.

PostRegion code hack posted by Eric Popo, November 29 2003:

Bruno's method work perfect for my P871 player. I just bought it today from BestBuy in Toronto.
The manufacturing date is Sep 2003.

Sub-ver 16.11.22.09
8032 03.01.06.04
Servo 00.00.F6.55
Risc 02.01.06.04
DSP 02.03.01.58
Region 0

Have not get a DVD to try it yet. will post again when I get an other region DVD to test it.

PostRegion code hack posted by Rav, December 06 2003:

I went to several Future Shop stores (Vancouver, Canada) and tried the change with their in-store players and got exactly the same results from every player. Quite simply, nothing happens.

I tried the instructions and the region window does appear, but you can't change it. No matter how much I tried, the up and down cursor keys just do not work!!

Not really sure what version of the player you have!!

PostRegion code hack posted by Colin, December 12 2003:

I also had the same problem about not being able to change my region. I just tested victors ronin firmware method and it worked perfectly on my Daytek P871 Version 1.8, manufactured July, 2003. Information from default firmware as follows:

Version : 0F.06.00.01
Sub-Ver : 04.11.32.05
8032 : 03.01.06.04
Servo : 00.00.F6.57
Risc : 03.01.06.04
DSP : 02.03.01.58
Region Code : 1

As victor also stated, after the firmware upgrade, the LCD display on the front of your unit will become all garbled and useless. And the splash screen will become a RONIN splash. Other then that, it worked great on my player, thanks goes to victor. I verify that this works on my Daytek P871 but it might not for you so i will not be held liable if you break your player performing this firmware upgrade.

This worked great for me.

Thanks Bruno!

This hack worked perfectly for me, it took a couple of tries but i realized that i had to push the buttons slowly and not fast, if you take you time it seemed to work better. I'm a region 1 user watching a pal disc. Thanks for the hack.

Bruno's hack worked perfectly on my P871. Tried it out on my DVD sent from the UK, played it no problem.

Great work Bruno!

PostRegion code hack posted by Victor, December 30 2003:

I found a new firmware that works perfectly with daytek p871. The LCD display works find with this hack and has a different splash screen. This one is from a Yamada DVD 2600 player, if you like to try it follow the link and do exactly the same procedures as with the previous firmware(from ronin player). I successefully installed it and I'm happy with the result, perfect match for this player.
Good luck.

Guys, make sure you are in the Preferences screen (that's the rightmost icon in the setup menu; you might need to use < arrow to get it to open) when entering 1379; that's what makes the difference between just seeing the region, and being able to change it.

PostRegion code hack posted by mia wallas, January 07 2004:

...in addition, some of the DVD's I own have the Macrovision mark on the label but they play fine...go figure.

PostRegion code hack posted by GL, February 04 2004:

I followed the exact procedure mentioned, and it worked just fine! Thanks so much. (GL from Canada)

PostRegion code hack posted by Sam Ontario, February 17 2004:

Anyone has the Umax hack bin file? The file P8710002 on the Umax website does not work for my Daytek P871.

PostRegion code hack posted by Sam Ontario, February 18 2004:

I have figured out how to upgrade to Umax P8710002 ISO file. Steps are as follows:
1. download the zip files and unzip them
2. burn the .ISO file on a CD-RW disc and copy the bin file to HDD.
3. Access the preference menu and get the volume and bin file NAMES for making a firmware upgrade CD-RW
4. Rename the .bin file with the SAME NAME Daytek P871 .bin file and label the Volume of the CD-RW to be the SAME NAME of the P871. (Note if you had upgraded firmware before, the Volume Name and .bin file name will be changed.)
5. Burn the CD-RW
6. Insert the CD
7. from screen instruction press play to upgrade (do not do anything if the P871 eject the CD-RW, it is still upgrading.
8. Change the region as others have posted.

PostRegion code hack posted by Jozek, February 22 2004:

Paul, read the instructions carefully.
If you have P8710001/04113216 you must name the CD P8710001, and the bin file 04113216.bin. Only then will the player read this file and perform the upgrade.

PostRegion code hack posted by GQ, February 26 2004:

Bought one of these players in Vancouver, did the simple Bruno hack from above (w/ remote, 1379). I found I had to press 1379 fairly quickly for it to work. But once I got the hang of it, I could do it everytime. Worked like a charm. Got a 2nd one, same results.
Player info: Manufactured October 2003, Version 2.1

PostRegion code hack posted by HK, March 03 2004:

I just hacked the DAYTEK P871 by using the code 1379, The code and procedure is actually the same as CITIZEN JDVD3820.
Thank you for all great guys.
For those found no response may due to the sensitivity of DAYTEK's remote. DAYTEK's remote is not very sensitive, you better point the remote right in front of the DVD's receiver and it will then work.
Good Luck.

PostRegion code hack posted by Grey Region, March 21 2004:

I just bought my Daytek P871 from Future Shop about a week ago.
My unit was manufactured in China on DECEMBER 2003 and is Version 2.1.

I originally thought it was multi region out of the box but when I put my region 3 DVD in it, there was no loading and it gave me the "WRONG REGION" message. Needless to say I was pretty bummed at this. Well, I was ready to take it back until I came across this site today and thank the heavens I did.

As other posts mention, the key is in accessing the PREFERENCES menu (the checkmark icon at the farthest right under Setup). Well, there is a trick to gaining access to this. Follow these steps, they worked for me:

1) Hit EJECT to open the disc tray (*Note: Preference menu was only accessible in this manner for my unit)
2) Hit SETUP button and select the PREFERENCE menu
3) Type in 1379 with the remote pointed right up close to the unit - this should open up the grey region box
4) Assign the region you want (0-6)
5) Exit by pressing SETUP button again
6) You're good to go! ENJOY!

Hope this info helped.

I'm off to watch Battle Royale now! :-)

Just got one from Future Shop in Quebec. Bruno's hack worked at once, no problems. Tested it with a Region 3 disc worked like a charmed. I exchanged my old Apex 1500 for this model and image quality's already much better.

PostRegion code hack posted by Eug, March 25 2004:

The 1379 region setting works fine via the remote. I just followed the instructions in the first post.

The machine was manufactured Dec. 2003.

PostRegion code hack posted by Derek, March 27 2004:

For all of people in Canada, there are two models / types of same model sold by Future Shop, older model of Daytek P871 lacks Component output, manufactured about June – August – October 2003, version 1.8 – hack for this model will not work!

New model of Daytek P871 have component output, mine is manufactured in December 2003, version 2.1 – hack for this model will work.

I hope this clarifies few thinks
Derek

PostRegion code hack posted by Eug, April 11 2004:

I bought a second one of these from Future Shop, and like my first one the region hack (as done in the first post) works fine. Remember, for it to work, there can't be a disc in the machine.

Both machines have component out, and both were purchased in the last few weeks (March/April 2004).

YES!

make sure you do this! my preferences page wasn't accessible unless i ejected the disk and left it open. it you can't goto the right most screen and pressing < or > skips it, then try this, it HAS to work!

PostRegion code posted by mia wallas, July 08 2004:

Found a way to disable Macrovision on the Daytek P871.
1)Using your remote, press "setup".
2)Go to video setup page which is the fourth icon on the top menu.
3) Press down arrow key once to highlight "component".
4)Press right arrow key to highlight "off, yuv, scarf".
5)Press arrow key down to highlight "scarf".
6)Enable "scarf".
You are now able to record and view DVD's Macrovision free through your VCR or W.H.Y.

Enjoy

oops..."SCARF" should be spelled "SCART"...my bad
