This is not mine but I tested it and it works. The player can be bought for $30 from Big Lots stores. So here it goes:

1. Turn on the player and open the tray.
2. Press MENU, 8, 8, 8, 8 on the remote. You should see 5 asterisks near the top left of your screen.
3. Press DISPLAY. A dialog box will show the current region code.
4. Press 0. A new dialog box shows 0 (region free) and a warning. Ignore the warning and don't press any keys on the remote.
5. Close tray using the remote control. Turn the device off and on again and enjoy your $30 player with any region code DVDs.

I have tested it with region 2 (Europe) DVDs. You may have to change the NTSC/PAL output signal with the remote for proper color quality since the "auto" function does not always work.

The process for this $30 player is as follows:

- Open the tray using the remote control.
- Press MENU, 8, 8, 8, 8. Five asterisks will appear on the top left side of the screen.
- Press DISPLAY. A dialog box will show the current region code (1 in my case, for USA).
- Press 0. A new dialog box will show the player changed to region free along with a warning that you can ignore. Do not press any other buttons at this point.
- Close the tray using the remote control. Turn the player off and then on again.

The player at this point will work with any region code DVD. It worked fine with a couple of region code 2, from Europe.

I have the Coby DVD-536 Player. I was having a rolling picture with PAL dvd's. I found that if through the DVDplayer setup menu, the television type is set to 'auto' it will switch output mode to PAL for pal dvd's and NTSC for ntsc discs. Set it to NTSC and all your PAL dvd's will play fine
