Region code and Macrovision hack posted by genpix, October 07 2003:

with no disk in the player press:
Setup, Vol+, Vol-, Vol+, Vol-

in the right upper corner a current region code would appear. You could switch between 1,2,3,4,5,6 or 255 using Right and Left buttons. I beleive, 255 is for multy-region.
If you press Up (or Down) button you can get into macrovision menu from here. Again, using Left or Right buttons switch between 3000 (Off) and 3001 (On) values.

DVD-player keeps these new settings even after powering Off.

PostRegion code hack posted by iSAWaUFO, June 01 2004:

I can confirm the region hack posted by xevious, but the macrovision hack had no effect. My S/N# 0434-52755
I was able to change the 3001 -> 3000, but this did not disable macrovision, even after a power cycle. The 3000 setting remained but macrovision was still enabled.

PostRegion code hack posted by coastertoaster, July 24 2004:

Xevious's hack worked for me, eventually... but BE CAREFUL. The remote is so poorly constructed that the tiny little rubber buttons have a tendency to get caught in their sockets and stick. After you press each number, be sure the button has popped back up again, or the codes you try to input will be wrong.

PostOther hack posted by Smee, February 08 2005:

The 5000/5001 entries disable and enable VCD Support. This is similar to other players which have this hidden menu. I was able to confirm this myself. Why anyone would want to disable this is beyond me on this unit. My guess is that there are some players out there with VCD support disabled by default and this allows you to bypass that option. Some Toshiba players come this way.

PostRegion code hack posted by Dacco, April 26 2005:

With NO disc in the player, press:
- Setup
- Vol+, Vol-, Vol+, Vol-, repeat if necessary

In the right upper cornera a current region code would appear, in my case "1" for USA. You could switch between 1,2,3,4,5,6 or 255 using Right and Left Arrow buttons. 255 is Muti-region. Up and Down Arrow buttons for Macrovision 3000/3001 (not tested because I currently use Decrypter and Shrink to handle this).

This hack also works for my other player, Norcent DP315 (Made in China, Q3 2004, bought at the end of December 2004).

PostRegion code hack posted by Jon Wolf, August 26 2005:

The region code hack posted by xevious works fine. The other hacks posted here don't do the trick. Also, the same region code hack also works fine in the Coby DVD-627 model that is not listed in this site yet

If you have the DVD-224M model (says DVD-224 on the box, DVD-224M on the manual...), the hack is:

Make sure you have no DVD in the tray.
On the remote control:
1) Press "TITLE"
2) Press "1" and then "9"
On the TV a large box with a small number will appear.
The number indicates for which DVD region the machine has been set, for example "2" for Germany or "0" for no region code.
3) Press the up arrow or down arrow to raise or lower the number.
4) Press "ENTER"
Done.

It works. Make sure you check the owners manual. This is an hack for the DVD-224M model.

Hacks I have read for the Coby 224 seem to be correct...I called Coby Customer Service yesterday because...back of player said model #224 but was worried because it was advertized as NTSC/PAL yet there was a "globe" on the back with a (1) inside it shouldn't it have had a (0) inside the "globe" not a (1)? He never answered that question but told me not to worry ... if I follow the directions in the email and change it to "multi-region" I'll be able to play any DVD's without changing codes again.
This is what was in the email.....
Coby 224
1- no disc in unit
2- power on
3- press "setup"
4- press Vol+ / Vol- / Vol+ / Vol-
5- number will show up onscreen (likely a (1)....)
6- change region code by using the RIGHT arrow
7- press "setup" again to EXIT

* 0/255/9 : these 3 #'s are listed as "multi-region" codes
was told 255 is the one most people use (FYI)

good luck and ...."HAPPY HACKING"

I have this dvd player and the other region-free codes did not work. It is actually a DVD-224M (see manual) though it says DVD-224 on the player. Here is how to do it:

If you have the DVD-224M model (says DVD-224 on the box, DVD-224M on the manual...), the hack is:

worked perfectly!

I just bought Coby 224 dvd player. I tried with the technique (vol+, vol-, vol+, vol-), it didnt work for me. I was so frustrated & thought of returning it to the store. But finally I foundout a way to crack the region code. here is the procedure:-
1) connect your dvd player to TV.
2) Switch on TV & DVD player.
3) on dvd remote, press open/close to open the tray.
4) on dvd remote, press 9735 (when you press 9 or 7 or 3, in TV it displays "Invalid key"....dont worry keep pressing...9735).
5) You will see a menu which has region codes from 0 to 6.
6) Select 0 for all regions (or) any other code you want.
7) exit the menu.
8) press open/close on the dvd remote to close the tray.
9) power off dvd player & power it ON again.

After I got one from Amazon then I got two from local Sears on Black Friday. Thanks to victors for DVD224SS hack. It works for ALL 3 units. Amazon's is DVD-224SS with DVD-224 on user's manual cover. Sears' are DVD-224 with DVD-224SS on user's manual cover. All manuals have a small print of 224SS in the lower right corner. The manual contents have no different. Here is the list about what appears on the TV:

STOP - red wrong-key icon (upper-right corner)
7 - KEY=7
0 - KEY=0
MENU - CURRENT REGION = 1
0 - SET ALL REGION
1 - SET REGION = 1
...
6 - SET REGION = 6

The hack of entering the code "70" worked for my DVD 224SS.

PostRegion code hack posted by auntieannie2, December 25 2007:

Tried hack for 224 as described by others with no disk, did not work. Works when I :1) turn on player 2) push "open " on remote, open the disk slot without disk in disk drawer, then 3) push 'set up' on remote, 4) push vol+, vol-,vol+,vol- on remote, then you finally see the little number come up on the screen (shows 1 for US)5) change the number to 255 for regionfree by using the arrow buttons, change the macrovision code from 301 to 300 to make macrovision free, again by pressing the arrow buttons up and down and sideways. This works great. Works only for the unchanged 224 version, not for 224SS or 224S.

The "70" hack from J.Chu worked a treat on my 224SS I bought on walmart.com.

I bought my Coby DVD 224 SS at walmart.com and none of the above hacks worked.
This worked fine:

1. Open up the disk tray
2. press menu button
3. press 8888
4. press the osd button
5. press 0 for region free

And then it's region free

PostRegion code hack posted by Blade1408, August 10 2010:

I just called Coby tech support because for some reason the
codes here were not working for me.

This is for the 224. Not the M or SS models.

1. Power on
2. open disk tray with remote
3. Press Menu, an "*" will appear on the upper left hand
side of the screen. You must see this "*" to continue.
4. enter 8888, Four more "****" will appear beside the
first.
5. press OSD button on the remote and the region menu will
open.
6. Using the numeric keypad on the remote, choose "0" for
region free. (Or whatever region you want from 1-6) If you
choose 0, a message will appear stating something about how
the region free setting is only for R&D blah, blah, blah.
7. After you enter the region code you want and the message
appears, you must press enter on the remote.
8. close the disk tray and power off the unit.

You are now ready to power back on and play any DVD you
like!

These are almost the same instructions posted here before.
But where I was messing up was that I was not looking for
the "*" and for some reason it wasn't working. To be clear,
There should be five "*****" on the screen after pushing
menu and 8888. No menu box pops up until you press the OSD
button.

PostRegion code hack posted by DutchPotatoe, December 26 2010:

Also, what is the OSD button? I have no idea where to find it...

PostRegion code hack posted by ezerbini, December 27 2010:
