	Currently hacks are available for models with 8AM and 8MM firmware. The hacks consist of firmware upgrades done thru burning a CD. The hacks remove macrovision and allow various region DVD's to play. http://www.nerd-out.com

	Just a side note on the hacks, They worked on my APEX 660 and I upgraded the firmware to 660 9MM It has a region selector so you only need to hack it once. YOU WILL NEED TO BURN DUMMY FILES TO THE DISK. I ruined 3 cd's by only burning the ROM file and the txt file. It didn't work till I added 2 50meg Dummy files.

	OFFA (One Firmware For All) works with this DVD player. OFFA is: "A group dedicated to porting The Sampo 631CF firmware to as many other ESS Chip based players as possible along with adding new features to the firmware that all can benefit from." http://groups.yahoo.com/group/OneFirmwareForAll The hacks are too numerous to mention here, but include Region Codes and Macrovision - but also adds JPEG support, better MP3 support, the ability to skip "unskippable" warnings (like FBI warnings), custom messages, adding a hard drive or extra CD/DVD drive to the system for media, remapping the firmware's remote control tables to work with Universal Remotes and tons of other "nifty" hacks. Besides the hacks this new firmware adds features that were simply NOT in the Apex firmware. Doesn't work with ALL Apex 660s via CDR method, but works on a large number of them - and others can be flashed if need be.
