Press the eject button to open the DVD tray. Press 8 4 2 and 1 on the remote. You'll see the menu to change regions and enable/disable Macrovision.

Open your DVD tray and while it is open push 8, 4, 2, & 1 on the remote and a menu should pop up where you can chose the Region Code and Macrovision. When you are done close the tray and the settings will save.

I used the codes 8-4-2-1 and changed the region to 9 and macrovision to off. The macrovision is still on. Any clues on how to turn off macrovision such as BIOS/ROM upgrade? Thanks W.L.

Open the Cd tray and leave it open. type the number 4821 while the tray is still open. A menu will appear on the screen which allows you to turn off macrovision (copywrite protection software) and to change the DVD player to an ALL REGION DVD PLAYER. Number 9 is the all region setting. When your done, close the CD tray to save your settings and then shut the DVD player off. Turn it back on, and Macrovision will not interfere anymore if you connect the DVD player to a VCR and now you can play all those cool ass Japanese Anime Import DVD players on your formerly-region 1 Player. Enjoy.

Note that all these instructions are correct, but they are missing one key ingredient. As most of these posts report, the Macrovision hack on my unit purchased summer 2001 would not work. The menu said it was off, but it was actually still on. Went to the Apex web site (http://www.apexdigitalinc.com/) and downloaded new firmware (09-13-01), tried the hack again, and it worked. Note that although it is not clear in the firmware upgrade instructions, you must unpack the .BIN file from the HITEKER.EXE file before burning to the root of a data disk. Burning the .EXE file instead won't work. Enjoy - Martin.

Like all the other hackers reported, with the tray open, press 8421 on the remote, and select either the regional code or Macrovision setting using the up or down arrows on the remote. What all these hackers left out was how to toggle the setting. This is done with the "enter" button on the remote. Toggle the setting and close the tray. Done. Now DVDs can be played through the VCR with absolutely no loss in picture quality, and you can now "back up" your DVDs to VHS so you don't have to buy a new DVD if your original is lost or damaged. Film executives certainly don't want consumers to pay TWICE for the same movie, do they? Yeah right...

The VIVID DVD107E from canadian retailer The Brick (www.thebrick.com) seems to be a rebranded AD-3201. Therefore the same remote hack works as well: EJECT 8 4 2 1 SELECT to change region |
