**NOTE** this was done with the following: Firmware : 2012/02/02_001005 Remote : AK59-00148A 1. Ensure that there is no disk in the tray. 2. Switch the player off and then back on. This is necessary to clean-boot the firmware. 3. Wait until the main menu page appears and the player stops doing anything. 4. Press the eject button on your remote to open the tray. 5. Press the eject button on your remote to close the tray. 6. As soon as the "No Disk" message appears at the top left corner do the following. 8. Press the STOP button (the square symbol) 9. Enter 76884 on the number pad. 10. The region code "4" should appear at the top left corner of the screen.(this just flashed on then off, so keep an eye on the screen) 11. Enter a "9" to make the player region free. 12. Power down and power up again. 13. Play a foreign DVD to verify the change. ================================================ ================================================ Firstly, you must start entering the code just after the "No Disk" message is shown and before the message disappears. Secondly, the STOP key is part of the code. All six keys must be entered smoothly as "STOP 76884". The entry gets timed out so you can't stop in the middle and restart. If you don't see the "4" the first time, don't worry. Just start from step 4 again (took me 2 goes to get it, it is all about the timing) ================================================ For people from other parts of the world, all region codes are as follows 1 – 2 9 3 3 4 2 – 5 7 5 3 8 3 – 5 6 7 3 2 4 – 7 6 8 8 4 5 – 5 3 8 1 4

The post using STOP 76884 when NO DISC appears didn't work for our Region 4 Blu Ray. What did work was hitting RETURN 78664. The Region Code 4 appeared in the top right corner and I had to quickly hit 9 before it disappeared. Took me only 2x to get it working. We can now watch all of our US DVDs here in Australia.

I'm in New Zealand and the modification of the hack worked for me, i.e. RETURN instead of STOP button, on the 2nd go. Thanks!

I just bought this DVD player and the new firmware version is 2012/09/18_001017 - currently bought for region 2 The hacks above do not work at all - the no disc sign stays on screen for about 2 seconds, no time to enter any codes. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Hi All. I managed to change the code to 9 by pressing RETURN 56732 (device purchased in Taiwan). Unfortunately DVDs bought in Europe still cannot be played... Checked several times and 9 in is still there, no more 3. Any idea? Thanks for help (need this desperately to play cartoons for my daughter)!

Folks, these steps really work, at least I can play all my DVDs now. Still not working for the Blu-Ray. I bought a area 2 Blu-Ray and that won´t work. Even though the DVD says "9" now instead of "4" , the Blu-Ray did not play.

I'm in South Africa (Zone 2) and the hack works. Thanks so much. As with others, I used RETURN instead of STOP. Took me about half dozen attempts to get the keyboarding smooth. Here is the modified instructions for Zone 2: 1. 8. Press the RETURN button 9. Enter 57538 on the number pad. 10. The region code "2" should appear at the top left corner of the screen.(this just flashed on then off, so keep an eye on the screen) 11. Enter a "9" to make the player region free. 12. Power down and power up again.

Hi all! For the BD-E5500 in good old New Zealand (wassup!), the trick is as peeps have wrote, but wait for the "No Disk" message to disappear. And dont be so fast at pressing the keys - it works fine at a slower but steady pace. And the "4" will appear in the top right, not top left! Steps: 1. Ensure that there is no disk in the tray. 2. Switch the player off and then back on. 3. Wait until the main menu page appears. 4. Press the eject button on your remote to open the tray. 5. Press the eject button on your remote to close the tray. 6. As soon as the "No Disk" message disappears from top left: 8. Press the RETURN button 9. Enter 76884 on the number pad. 10. The region code "4" should appear at the top right corner of the screen.(this just flashed on then off, so keep an eye on the screen) 11. Enter a "9" to make the player region free. 12. Power down and power up again.

I have a SAmsung BD-E5500-XU Software version:BSP-E5500WWB-1018.0 the remote I have is the "AK59-00148A" I have followed all the instructions from this web page and none seem to work. As someone else mentioned the "no disc" message appears on the right. NOT the left! I also have tried the "STOP" and "RETURN" and also the "REPEAT" button when entering the code but nothing works. |
