How to Shrink DVD Menus with MenuShrink

Anybody who likes to backup their personally owned DVDs to DVDR could tell you that huge menu's are often a problem to compress while maintaining quality. MenuShrink is a nice little program that shrinks the size of your DVD menus by converting motion menu's to still menus, with or without background audio. This ultra-fast process could easily shrink a DVD menu to 5% of its original size while keeping the main menu functionality.

Creating Custom Titles and Credits for Windows Movie Maker

Windows Movie Maker contains an undocumented feature that allows users to add customizations for built in titles and credits. These custom titles and credits are created via the similar xml interface as described for effects and transitions. The new customization feature allows the users to overcome many technical limitations in Movie Maker for example exact placement of text and overlaying a transparent image as a logo.

MSU Lossless Codecs Comparison

The name of this video codec category declares full quality losses absence - the decompressed video stream should be completely identical to original. Output quality is same for all codecs. Absolute absence of losses is a very strong requirement, therefore it is often hard to achieve compression ratios above 3:1. Some of the tested codecs have an opportunity of work in "lossy" mode; it allows to reach considerably higher compression degree with rather small losses of quality. However, only "fully lossless" mode is considered in the current comparison. The only parameter of comparison is the compression level.

How to burn ISO images using PgcEdit ensuring 32k gaps between IFOs and BUPs

This guide explains how to use PgcEdit to ensure mimimum spacing of 32k between the end of the IFO and the start of the BUP. Without this spacing, a single CRC error that would normally only affect one of the two files will affect both, rendering both files useless and the DVD to stop playing. PgcEdit also features an integrated buring module, which this guide shows how to set up and use.

How to put two full DVDs to one DVD preserving original menus

Starting with ver 2.6 DvdReMake Pro can be used to merge 2 full dvds. This means FULL - keeping original menus, languages, everything. It is a "one click" procedure that can be done without any knowledge of the DVD structure. When played merged disk will show a start up menu asking what disk you would like to go to. After that selected disk will play as if it is the only one on the DVD. At any time during playback pushing "title menu" on the remote will take you to this start up menu.

Importing selfmade menus to episode DVDs done with DVD Shrink

There are several ways to do this and so I'm only explaining a straightforward way doing it with DVD Shrink. However, first you gotta make up your mind concerning the structure of your menu. I for one am perfectly happy with a simple menu that only allows me to jump to each ep since I can switch languages and jump chapters during playback with my remote more conveniently. If you do fancy language and chapter selection menus you must generate more complex dummy assets instead. I might cover this in a future guide, in this one I'm dealing only with a simple menu.
