    Hey Guys,

After reading all the info regarding data loss and data rot on the Princo media, I am gonna buy some Ritek's and copy the few dozen discs I have over to the Ritek Media.

Are the a03's the good type of Ritek's ? I believe it looks so from the reviews. Does anyone know their "life expectancy" ? It seems the darker dyed discs have a longer life ?

Or quite simply am I being paranoid and wasting money by purchasing more discs when I have a 100 spindle of Princo's sitting here already.

I am compiling all my VCD and SVCD onto DVDr's, so I can not risk the data loss due to a crappy media, so I was hoping to get some opinions and input from you all.

Any input or ideas are very appreciated. Thanks

  2. I've burned 100 so far with great results. not one coaster or skipping though the first 25 spindle i got worked on my crappy LD70 portable the 100 cakebox I got had issue in it.. This isn't something I noticed on any other DVD player though.

The Ritek's have worked in every DVD player I've put them in and my PS2.

I use the a03's exclusively. They seems to be top quality. I have yet to find a dvd player that can't play them (other than those players that can't play dvd-r/+r's.) They are relatively inexpensive considering the quality.)

Why do you have 100 Princo's sitting there, those should be in the trash.

I hear you on the Princo's Guys. It is too hard to ignore, reading all of the issues with them.

It seems to be an overwhelming consensus that they definately have some issues (the highest one I am concerned with is the data rot / degradation - I can not author these discs, and think they're done AOK, and then out of the blue they don't work - that is entirely foolish for a difference of like .40 a disc more), it seems a reality that the Princo's are not a good choice when it comes down to assuring you want your stuff to last.

    In light of all this,

All are invited , a post-St Patty's Day Bash at my place.

I have up to 90 + coasters, so there will be plenty coasters for the beers !!!!!!!!!!! Get ready to drink up and play some frisbee !!!!!!

  5. I've used about 10 Riteks so far and haven't had any problems with them. On the other hand, the Princos I've used would burn without any errors but will skip a lot during playback. So I'll stay away from them and stick with Riteks.

  6. What do you guys thgink of princo 2X media I would think they would be of better quality then the 1X media, I bought some and they work great no coasters but am worried that they might degrade and be unplayable in a few months, any one of you guys have experience with them.

I seriously think they exactly the same media as the 1x, just that they stole the TDK code. They look the same and feel the same.

LOL. I'll join you. I've got 45 pink unbranded '2x' coasters that barely function when burned at 1x (and when I say barely I mean only readable in the dvd-rom drive that they were burned in... sometimes.)

    LanceSteel,

I agree totally. I'll get the brews chillin' and we can use all our "surplus" of discs for a hell of a night.

In looking at your avatar, one compilation I worry about making a back-up from these Princo's is my Escape from New York / Big Trouble in Little China / Tombstone ........we can't risk that now can we ?!?!?!

In light or the bash, aside from no furniture being "dreadfully" watermarked from the bottles in the process of our mass consumption, we could maybe add a trippy protective layer over my driveway or patio (I'm sure the neighbors would dig that), since Christmas is over we could begin a new season of Spring with a new custom and type of tree decorations ?

The possibilities are endless all thanks to a company making a "seemingly" sh*tty product

I said except for the media code. The reason it will burn at 2x is because your dvd-r recognizes that media code as 2x TDK media. In order for 1x discs to burn at 2x, all you have to do is somehow get a 2x media code onto it. I think thats what PRINCO did.

Just to beat a dead horse into the ground...............

My brother in law had 3 Princo's go bad last night. All had played previously, and played well.

They were only 1-2 months old............

Just FYI for you all before your purchases........................
