I have this writer for some time now, updated with the latest official f/w from the asus website. I am not that impressed with this burner as it doesn't burn my discs at 8x. The process crashes at 8-10% where the speed changes from 6x to 8x. I use quality media as Verbatim, Memorex and Sony. 6x burning is quite good but low quality media is accepted only at 4x. My suggestion is to look forward for some other burner as Asus 1608p2 or the older 1604p series. GL, spaz. Comments posted by spaz from Romania, December 09, 2005. Rated this writer No rating. |

I would have to say I love this burner... I can backup my DVD movies and burn them in no time at all. All my DVD's I burn at 12x takes about 6-8 min to burn 4.4-4.7 gigs to them. "I use maxwell dvd-r's" for the people saying they only work at 4x its prob because they are trying to copy a dvd right to the dvd burner and the dvd reader is not fast enough. I have never used this for burning a normal CD since i have an ASUS cd-rw drive that burns at 52x or something like that. I can't wait for the 16x DVD media to come out.. should put me in the 4-5 min burn range. Comments posted by Chris from United States, September 02, 2005. Rated this writer 9 of 10. |

I have had the Asus 1608P for a few days now and it is great. First I updated to the newest firmware 1.5 and it writes my fujifilm 8x DVD-R dics at 8x. It writes my Imation 8x DVD-R at 12x. Awesome! Comments posted by Kit from United States, July 20, 2005. Rated this writer 10 of 10. |
