| Zero coasters after 100+ burns in a little over two months. It's fast and quiet, and the price is right. Am using Dee & Liggy's modified firmware to get around the riplock and to bitset +R discs as -ROM. Without those two features, I would NOT rate this unit a 10. People in the know seem to think that this burner's predecessor, the 3500, is better, and that may be true, but I have no complaints about the 3520. | I have not had any problems reading other dvds. I just got Sara Brightmans two Live form Las Vegas dvds, but they will not read (play back) for the ND-3520a. When I checked in DVD-RW Drive the green led comes on and after awhile goes off and the message that I get is Please insert a disk into the dvd drive. | I have burned about 30 movies in the last month with the NEC 3520A, bought it at NewEgg for $52. I used Sony 8x DVD-R and Memorex 8x DVD-R. Not a single coaster, all perfect. Using DVD Decrypter i get up to about 14x with Sony and about 11x with Memorex. Better and faster than i could have ever imagined, 5 times faster than my old Lite-on. Not tried a dual layer yet but all single layer media I have tried (including some cheap stuff) plus and minus have burned superbly - no coasters. Possibly not the fastest burner compared to a Pioneer but the reliability and quality of burning means more to me. Available for around £35 its a steal. | i got it from newegg a few weeks ago. It burn DVD+R w/o any problem. installation was smooth but I can't burn TEON DVD-R 8X disc from staples using Nero 6.0 somehow. It also freezes when it start to burn. But the same program and setup works for DVD+R disc and CD-Rs. dont' know if this is a Nero bug or the drive problem. | So far as yet this drive has been superb indeed. Mine has fw 1.04 on it, and I've been burning through stacks of ritek g04s like butter, without a single problem. 4x is the most I've attempted so far, since thats what the discs are, but theyve been great compatibility and quality wise. Being able to burn a full audio cd in 3 minutes is quite the plus as well. The drive is smooth as silk, the tray as gentle as can be, and except for when the drive first spins up an already written disc, it's actually much much quieter than my old dvr-a03 was by far. I have had the 2510A for over 3 months and ripped 300+ DVDs with it not one single bad burn. This new NEC replaces my Lite-on CD/DVD combo drive which crapped out on me last week! | I have 2 Nec Dvd-Burners the 2500A which ripped arse when I got it a year ago, but of recent it wouldn't rip disc's I had wrote (movies) My LG dvd - rom had similar problems so it was time to upgrade, I came back to this site as this was how I made my first choice & never regretted it. On the reviews of the Nec 3520A I brought one off Ebay $103.00 delivered, even after the Stupid postie through it over the fence it still works like a dream, its ripped movies at the speed of 20x in dvd decrypter, I use princo or Azul printables (negative) and have no problems, I'm still using the oringinal firmware but that'll change when or if I need more from it but for now its perfect already. | Like a few others here, I bought the Micro Advantage 16DDVDRW-13A after Xmas (Office Max gift certs.) and burned quite a few movies with it. They ran through the burn process fine but I later found out that there were problems with about half the discs burned. They would freeze up and become very pixelated. I returned it and bought the NEC 3520 from Newegg.com for about $68 shipped. I have done no firmware upgrades and it screams. Very quiet in comparison and burns my cheap Kypermedia 4x Value Discs at 4x and my Memorex 8x media at 12x (both +Rs).
