| I've had this drive for awhile now and had no problems with any media brands. I tend to use Generic Optodiscs b/c they're cheap and have made only one coaster out of about 100. | Excellent Drive! I´ve bought it a few months ago from "El Corte Ingles", at the very stupid price of 270 Euros: A robbery, I know. I was an expat newcomer to Barcelona/Spain from South America... 6 months later I know better and cheaper places to buy my stuff... I have burned many (many) XBox DVD backups and many CD-R's (for XBox and also PC backups) using the cheapest and dirtiest media you can think of (to compensate for the extra money I´ve spent on the drive ;) ) and never made a coaster. I re-burned a DVD-RW Imation disc about 200 times with no hassle. Same for a Phillips 700 Mb CD-RW. With the only thing I have had problems was with over-burning: I´ve made 3 of 5 coasters trying to burn about 739 Mb on one of those "90 minutes/800 Mb" InVes brand CD-R´s. I´ve tried the A111 and A112 firmwares and now I´ve just installed the new A116. Let´s see if that solves the problema. Other than that, is a great piece of hardware! | I recently e-bayed my A-105 and got Panasonic SW-9571 for $139 from livewarehouse.com. I am happy to report that Panasonic is more compatible with DVD-RW media than the Pioneer. | I purchase this drive for $127 OEM only driver disk(what a steel) about 1 week ago, have burned CD-R DVD-R/RW and DVD-RAM useing multiple dycrypting and burning softwares. The only problem I have had is it took a while to find a program that would recognize the drive as a CD-burner. I have only made 1 coaster and it was my fault or the decrypting software I used that time, because I tried same movie with different software worked fine. Great great drive would purchase again. Used cheap 1x disks, played in DVD-ROM on my computer, I have a first generation standalone and accourding to www.dvdrhelp.com no burned disks work with it, which I agree have had no luck, will be purchasing a new DVD standalone unit(need one anyway) Comments posted by Marc from Other, September 10, 2003. | Very UNHAPPY with this drive. dvdinfo says the drive doesn't report media codes, included software doesn't allow it to recognize DVD-RAM on a Windows 2000 machine (corporate environment), and there's no record of that model number on www.panasonic.com for driver updates. | got one for just $158, bought an ieee 1394 external enclosure, worked well on xp without any driver. burned 3 dvds, one failed using instancopy. I think instancopy has some problem. It's not the writers' fault. I used dvd2one and nero express, burned with 2X on my cheap 1X optodisk dvdr. silent and stable.DVDs I burned can play on my "NO NAME" dvd player and my dvd-rom with all features. | Just got this drive today from Livewarehouse for $160 shipped. This is a great drive. I have a AMD XP 2000 system with 640 m ram and win98SE. So far burned CD-R, CD-RW and DVD-R. Haven't tried DVD-RW yet. This drive burns a full CD-R in about 7 mins, a CD-RW in about 15 min, and a full DVD-R in 30 min. Didn't even bother installing the DVD-RAM driver. The only thing I can say against this drive is that it reads slower then the 16X DVD player I have in my computer. The player can rip a DVD about three times faster than the SW-9571 drive. | Purchased unit 2 weeks ago. Made 10 disc (-R) with absoultely no problems using OptoDisk. Very pleased with unit. No problem getting unit to work under 2k. | I recently purchased this gem for $174 US and installed in the new computer I'm working on -- an AMD/Duron machine with 256K RAM and 1.2 gig processor speed (roughly). So far, no real problems burning on Acu blank DVD-R media at 2X speed. Burn most movie backups (90 mins or so) in about half an hour, usually with all menus and extras. (Only one DVD-9 tried so far and was able to burn it with DVD Shrink.)I have successfully used DVD Decrypter, DVD Shrink, and Instant Copy. Only problem is Nero doesn't seem to want to co-operate in the burning of DVDs...could be me, however. I haven't tried to burn DVD-RW or CD media yet. Results with this burner have been excellent -- much better than the stand-alone Panasonic DVD recorder I have, which basically copies audio and video to DVD-R with no frills. DVDs burned on this multi-drive are super high quality and have played back with no problems on a Norcent and a Daewoo (and the Daewoo is kind of picky sometimes), as well as on a computer with a DVD drive. A super buy at under $200, and just about all you need if your computer will support it. (At this price, there was no software, just a CD with drivers on it -- no cables. | I also bought this drive a few weeks ago as an OEM drive, with just the screws and driver disc (also from scan.co.uk). I'm running this drive in a Windows XP professional machine. I've successfully burnt about 5 dvd-r (Samsung Be-All discs from Blankdiscshop.co.uk) , only ruined one when I forgot to turn on buffer underrun protection and Windows update decide to go search for some updates for me. Have successfully written using Nero and Ulead DVD Workshop/ VideoStudio 6. The drive has successfully read/written DVD-RAM discs, with only the drivers that came on with the drive. Also succesfully written to a CD-R. Not tried any DVD-RW discs yet. I'm very happy with the drive (my first DVD writer) especially for the price (£150). | I have had this drive 10 days now and I have to say I am extremely pleased with it. No drivers were installed (I just got the drive, no disks whatsoever).I did not have the same problem that the last poster did, my XP installation found the drive on boot up, said it was a CD-ROM so I inserted a DVD-R and XP changed it's mind & decided that it definately is a DVD-RAM drive. In terms of writing, I have written on (DVD-R) Datawrite (will never buy again, after 1 hour on video errors appear from artifacts to freezing but data is ok if you do not use the full disk, should have tested a sample before buying 50! 90% video coasters. Ritek & Verbatim both work flawlessly. I bought the drive to compliment my Panasonic HS2 but haven't tried DVD-RAM yet as yet. At £150 for a DVD-R in my opinion it is a bargain. | I bought this drive a couple of weeks ago in the UK from www.scan.co.uk. It was the OEM unit, so came with mounting screws and the driver software only. I have so far tested the unit with the new Datasafe 01ne DVDs at 2x and they read successfully in my PS2. I have also tried Nan-ya DVDs and also burned successfully at 2x. In terms of CD-Rs, I have only tried Datasafe 80 minute CD-Rs, and they work perfectly too! The only problem I have found so far is with the DVD-RAM drivers and Windows XP. I cannot get Windows XP to recognise the drive as a DVD-RAM drive, with a disc inserted. Also, if I flip a disc over, it shows as having the same contents as the reverse, which it clearly doesn't. I have located some aged update that is supposed to fix this, so I will test it and keep you posted.
