| The firmware for GWA-4161B can be found at: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/genericSoftwareDownloadIndex?cc=us&lc=en&softwareitem=pv-36697-1&jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN With the firmware upgrade, my drive is now able to recongize my Memorex DVD+R DL disc, which it wouldn't recongize before. | The dvd works fine except for doule layer dvd burning. In which case it prefers Verbatim Media. There is a firmware update and it seems to correct this problem, but perhaps not 100% and may cause other issues. I can confirm that Nero wil burn dual layer DVD<s made by Memorex with this update. | From the limited information i finally got from LG, there is and never will be a driver or firmware upgrade available. It also will never be aknowledged on the LG website. This is because the GWA-4161B was sold as an OEM product. OEM products are generally not sold directly by the manufacturer, and even more rarely is support provided for them. The only two points of advice LG is able to provide is this 1. All LG OEM products are built to spec. so that Windows XP should be able to assign the appropriate generic driver. It obviously fails badly at this, since people get burn rates of 4x instead of the 16x the drive is capable of. 2. The only drivers provided for OEM products, are ones provided by the company LG built the hardware for. I.E. if Dell had LG build a line of hard drives for them, Dell would be responsible for tech support not LG. Comments posted by Snives from United States, October 30, 2005. | just starting on this DVD buring caper so very much a newbie. I'm using DVD43free for decryption and arange of s/w for copying 1clickDVD, DVD wizard pro mainly. Now my concern is this. The burner seems to be only reading at 2 x speed, from what I have read it is locked into "quiet" mode. As the s/w that came with it is only for 98, not 2k, XP there is no way of getting in and re-setting this. I bought one that came with no driver disc and have no idea where to find it online... If you have found the driver, please post a comment with a link!
