This Samsung-Toshiba burner sux anus to the max!!!!!!!!!! It lasted less than a year and sounded like a 700 vacuum cleaners running @ full suction mode. My computer nearly vibrated of its desk from this piece of scat!!!!! I have so many defective discs from this piece of junk!!! And to add to my misery, I was forced to open a sidepanel and direct a BOX FAN to the drive to prevent it from setting afire!!!!!! Do not buy it unless you are a masochistic person Comments posted by jerryclark8472 from United States, June 07, 2006. Rated this writer 3 of 10. |

Horrible writer. Will not burn faster than 1.3X no matter what media I use. All attempts to contact anyone at Toshiba support have failed miserably. Besides the writing problem it sounds like a freight train. Comments posted by Rychezilla from United States, December 14, 2005. Rated this writer 1 of 10. |

Terrible DVD writer; has problems with several media brands, and after a 6 month period of little use, starts messing with the IDE ports, stops recognizing original DVD media, and so on. DO NOT BUY! Comments posted by Ezequiel from Argentina, November 27, 2005. Rated this writer 2 of 10. |

This link shows the improvements achieved with firmware TU56, for example write support for DVD+/-RDL: http://www.toshiba-europe.com/storage/Index.asp?page=PCI&nav=ISH_PRS&stype=product&ptype=&frame=content&model=SDR5372 Comments posted by ahlfmo from Germany, August 08, 2005. Burned and played with most DVD Players. The Media brands used - Office Depot -R 4x, TDK +R 8x, CompUSA -R 2x, Maxell -R 8x, Maxel +R 8x, Ritek -RW 2x, Verbat. +RW 2x. The only thing is this drive shaking quite a bit while it spinned (at high speed). Up to this point, I got every single burned disk worked (burned 20, no problem). Overall, it is okay for $69.95 (after rebated). This is better than I/O Magic 16x16x8x iDVD16DL, which burned fine, with no errors BUT cannot play with any DVD player at all.
