| This writer is a bit of an enigma - I have successfully managed to copy onto several ridisc g04 dvd-r discs but enounter problems when trying any other blank media. The copies that were made are perfect but since ritek are doing away with their g04 dye, and since Sony don't seem to be ofering any firmware to fix this problem, It might be beter going for the Pioneer 108 - a much more compatible writer. | Just got this drive and have had zero problems burning a half dozen DVDs so far at 4x with Khypermedia 4x DVD-Rs, working great. Only issue is likely software related (Nero), in that I couldn't select a speed lower than the 4x max the discs were rated at... I'm new to DVD burners/burning so I don't know what would cause that. However as stated they have burned perfectly and I've had no problems playing them (on my KLH DVD-221 player). Comments posted by Razorz28 from United States, December 26, 2004. | The Sony is a little squirrely - I had the same problem Sheila did - I'd try to burn something and get either a "buffer" error or a "power" error. I did manage to get it fixed, but it took some investigation (To fix it, I went into Nero, chose "Recorders", highlighted the Sony drive and then chose "Options" - then UNCHECKED all 3 items under Options (Power Burn, Generic Write, and the DVD 1G thing).) | Mesh computers fitted mine in September and it has never worked to record DVDs! I get a 'Calibration Error' using Bulkpaq DVD+R disks. Am still trying to get reimbursement from Mesh! | Awesome burner! It would burn any dvd I throw at it. Even some very cheap dvds. I would give it a 10 but the drive would not let me choose the speed I want to burn at.
