| tried to 8x burn using external promise card 133TX2... drive recognised and burn , but very very slow. Evntually figured out that this drive has a problem with promise card and drop into pio access mode. I had 4x dvd burner from asus which was working fine on that board. Drive burned Memorex 8x DVD-R media perfectly fast ast 12x speed after I move it back to Intel motheboard ide port. Btw, I have leatest firmware and drivers for dvd writer as well as promise card. | Im sure this is the Benq rebadge which my mate warned me against buying but I trusted the MSI brand DOH !!. Drive has burnt out in excess of 40 DVD- disks or varying brands and speeds and dyes(I even burnt 8 speed disks at 2 speed but still either burnt out the disks or locked Nero/Alcohol so I had to reset PC)although I have to say the drive did write CD's perfectly. This moved one stage further as just as I was about to give up and return it to the shop, a firmware update appeared on the MSI site and at last it did burn a whole DVD, but there is no happy ending as neither my modded Xbox or Standalone DVD could read them and have worked with every disk I have ever put in them no matter how cheap the media was. So overall very disappointed in the product and will return it to the shop & exchange a new HDD and keep my DR4-A. Comments posted by fred5432 from United Kingdom, October 11, 2004.
