This is an excellent dvd burner. Though my first experience was not good b/c of the media. It does NOT work with the JVC DVD-R UPC Code: 04683801902-9 SKU# VDR-47EU30 D27192 Mfg Part#: VDR-47EU30, VDR47EU30, VDR 47EU30 you can view this product at http://www.thetwistergroup.com/product/VDR-47EU30%20D27192.html Comments posted by NadamA from United States, August 02, 2005. Have this in an Averatec 6235 laptop. Works fine with DVD+R discs up to 8x speed. Firware appears to limit all 8x DVD-R discs I have tried to 4x. But they burn fine (just slower burning than the +R discs). Haven't tried a Dual Layer disc yet. Some OEM versions of this drive supposedly won't burn DVD-R discs at all (this is intended for some reason). If this is yours, a "crossflashed" firware update may fix it. Just be aware of the risks of firware flashing before you try this! Comments posted by grayin from United States, April 25, 2005. Rated this writer 8 of 10. |

Excellent Dual Layer & dual format (+r &-r) slim DVD writer. I have had it installed it in my Dell Latitude C640 now for three months and has never given me a bad disc (I have burt over 100 DVDs and CDs in these three months). It is quiet, reads and writes very fast. This drive can read all discs, never had a problem neither reading nor writing. I have also tried different DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD+R DL, CD-R, CD-RW media, and this drive can handle all of them! There are quite a lot of firmware upgrades available already (see http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=108852&page=2), and it's really easy to make the drive region free (see http://dhc014.rpc1.org/LtnRPC/index.htm). In summary, best DVD writer I have ever had (I have had around 10 in the last 3 years, inc the NEC 6500A, which I thought was awefull!). Buy it for your laptop, you won't regret it.
