| This drive sucks, I have the same problems like a lot of people, I burned Ridata 8X -R/+R on this, but always at 4X because when you set it at 8X either the disc started burning at 5X real speed or something or it was unreadable. | I'm also having problems with this Sony Drive. I've not confirmed 100% that it is the recorder but it does appear to be very tempermental. Writing to DataSafe 4x DVD-Rs was OK providing use recorded at 4x. Recording at any other speed caused films to freeze at towards end. | I have had mine about 3 months. It is starting to act up. I can write DVD's But can't write CD's. Sony doesn't support this drive, that I can tell. | this burner is starting to crap out on me. Had this burner for 3 months now, burned roughly 200 dvd so far, initially working flawless on ritek g04 at 4x speed. last 20 dvds, it is giving me freezes, pauses when playing dvd on my samsung dvd player. Switch to better media, maxell dvd-r 8x made in japan, still problems, try verbatim, problems. time for a new burner. Comments posted by John from United States, January 07, 2005. | This is a piece of crap. The unit had to be replaced in less than a month. At first it works ok.. then it slowly starts to fail until it screws every disc you try to burn, even Verbatim or Ridata. Worst of all.. nero will tell you the disc was burned succesfully and then when you try to play it on your DVD player it will start to freez by the end of the movie. Don´t throw away your money. | It works very good for me. I have burned all sorts of brands: Ridata, Princo, Imation, Verbatim, Generic / Unbranded. And in both 4x and 8x without any problem DVD´s play ok on about 20 different DVD players. My setup is an Athlon 1,2Ghz w/ 256MB Ram and Windows Xp. All dvd´s were created with Nero 6.3.
