I bought this baby few days ago for a very good price here in Europe. I must say i didn't expect it to be *that* good, anyone wondering if it's worth buying just go and get it. It's worth each and every cent, I don't understand why Mac said it sucked, it's cool as hell and I know what I'm saying so do all the people here but him and they are right, indeed. Comes in a very nice box, with cable, screws etc, nice manual, some software and two disks: DVD-R and DVD-RAM (both Maxell brand). Flawless installation and then I tested with several media types and works just perfect, not a single problem at all. I tried with very cheap and said to be sucky BulkPaq G3 (x1) and it burned them like a charm at 2x! Surface of that disk looks good after burn and nothing like blury or cloudy as many Pioneer users report. I tried several other media types (all x1) and it also burned them all 2x! It's cool. It's also quiet and it doesn't get hot even after several burns. As a bonus You get DVD-RAM support which is great: much better than DVD-RW (way faster as You write directly to sectors on DVD-RAM, no lead-in/out needed and You can put e.g. FAT32 filesystem on the DVD-RAM disk within seconds): basically You get hot swapable disk drive of nearly 5 gigs. I'm going to order 10 DVD-RAMs next week and use them for backup, temp storage etc. As another bonus this drive can read DVD+R flawlessly which I didn't test yet but I'm sure it works as supposed (no other DVD-R only drive can read DVD+R disks but this baby can do it). And one more thing: in Europe i get 24 months warranty for this one, all others brands are just 12 months. One more time: if You are looking for inexpensive, good quality DVD burner look no more - go and get LG 4020B, You will be as happy as I am now. I have this drive 5 week's ago. This drive is very quicky for writing (no burning!) on DVD-RAM (for compare with slow packet burning of DVD-RW/+RW drives), it's ideal for data handling (no formating, no finalizing, no packetwriting (uses RAM sector writing), automatic data verification (with full speed writing), automatic defect managment, very data safety, ...). It's solution recommended by profesionals (backuping, video editing, data handling, ...). DVD-RAM is supported in my WinXP (and other), without any software instalation, and on system level (WinXP for dvd-ram no use integrated burning sw). Rate down for only 2x speed DVD-R burning (for backuping my DVD-Video disks), but i have only 2x speed dvd-r disks. This drive is only 12x speed CD-R (and 8x speed CD-RW), but for frequent CD-R/RW buring I have 52x24x52x CDR/RW burner ;). With compare with another my sony dru500a, lg is no problematic, work fine, and support great dvd-ram. This drive uses cheap and more compatibile DVD-R/RW disks (compare with DVD+R/RW disks). Rate up for standarized (DVD forum) DVD Multi recorder, and good price. Comments posted by xzero from Other, March 11, 2003. Rated this writer 10 of 10. |

I bought this drive 2 week's ago, and I plan on returning it soon. This Burner has been a big let down. I now have lot's of CD and DVD coaster's. And it is vary slow. I also have a Sony DRU500A that I'm vary happy with. No Coaster with it. And it is a lot faster CD-R 24X and CD-RW 10X Plus it will write to DVD+ Disk's. I think you get a better deal with the Sony DRU500A. I think I will pick up the Sony DRU500AX, next. Comments posted by Mac from Other, March 10, 2003. Rated this writer 1 of 10. |

Its great DVD Multi burner. Got one last week. No problems with installation (WinXP). WindowsXP recognizes this drive, and installs the drivers automatically. Have used it to back up HD data onto DVD-RAM (formated as NTFS with NTFS compresion) without any software instalation (only WinXP system). Work perfectly. And burn many Movie DVDs onto various DVD-R discs at 2X speed, without problem. DVD-R movie Discs work perfectly on my Panasonic RA82 player, and Pioneer 525 player. I would highly recommend it as excellent drive. Comments posted by xawer from Other, March 10, 2003. Rated this writer 10 of 10. |

Picked up this DVD burner about a week ago. Have used it to back up HD data onto DVD-RAM and burn 4 Movie DVD's onto DVD-R discs so far at 2X. No problems at all and very quick and easy to use. DVD-R movie Discs work perfectly on my Pioneer 525 player. Windows XP recognizes this right out of the box and installs the drivers automatically. This is a well priced unit and I would highly recommend it as excellent for it's price range. Comments posted by The Limper from Other, March 05, 2003. Rated this writer 10 of 10. |

its superb for quick and large data handling, with very safe and very flexible dvd-ram (im using formated as NTFS with compresion for my backuping). For video and tempoary data, is dvd-r/rw good. cd-r/rw is too good. Comments posted by xzero from Other, January 10, 2003. Rated this writer 10 of 10. |

Excellent drive. Faultless performance at 2x on 1x media (bulkpaq and white label so far). Won't work with cheap datasafe -rw (coaster after coaster), but superb performance with white label -rw's Does hang when fixing -rw's after burning less than 1 gig as many other drives do but i expect a firmware upgrade will be availabe soon to fix this. Hopefully there will be a region hack for it soon too. Still, for £165 it is a bargain, and DVD RAM as a bonus as well :) Comments posted by Alan from Other, December 13, 2002.
