| i bought this drive in March 2004. i have to say that i thru many different brands of media, from cheapos to the more expensive stuff. and i abused the hell out of this drive; estimate that i burned nearly 500 CD-R & DVD+Rs on this drive. in October, i started having problems, the drive was slowing down. didn't matter which brand of media, it would take 4-5 times longer to burn. it still did burn good copies, but i wanted my speed back. i talked to the tech help, they were very responsive and helped me walk thru every possibility. finally they sent me an RMA to return it as their warranty is for 12 months. we'll see what happens when it gets back Comments posted by CrazyElwin from United States, November 18, 2004. | First purchased this drive in January 04 and had problems installing. It would only install on the Primary IDE Channel. Next it would only burn DVD -R media (memorex 4X) and not +r Media. After XP SP2 was installed The drive refused to burn any DVD media. Went to their tech support and was pleasantly surprised by the timely manner in which they responded. I found out: "The Company sells its many products, under three brand names -- I/OMagic, Hi-Val & Digital Research Technologies -- through nationally and internationally recognized retail outlets, such as Best Buy, Circuit City, CompUSA, OfficeMax, Office Depot, Radio Shack, Staples and Target stores. For more information, visit the I/OMagic Web site at www.iomagic.com." After a firmware update : http://www.iomagic.com/Firmware/FirmwareDownload.html , this drive has burned ANY media I have thrown at it, included off brand cheapo's.
