| Hi, I'm from Italy, I'll try to explain my experiences in English! Actually I don't find yet a defect in this burner. It accepts all kind of media, from most famous to cheapers. I tried with good Verbatim, with LG, and also with anonimous and look horrible Bulk. It always work. The DVD are readable for my PS2 no mod and an old stand alone Panasonic A350 that is not compatible with any different kind of DVD support like DVD-R!!! I report here also the result of ADVDInfo for this bulk: 00 42 00 00 01 40 C1 FD 9E D8 50 00 02 7A 0C 15 .B...@....P..Z.. 77 78 90 00 03 44 44 44 20 44 56 00 04 44 52 00 WX...DDD DV..DR. Big problem with bundled software,mainly with RecordnowDX,which refusses to load,give me error and then stops loading.Pioneer aus. contacted and waiting for an answer.My Nero v5.0 does't recognize it either. | Paid 285+shipping; very happy w/ this drive. So far I can say that Princo 2x media burn flawlessly each time (20 out of 20); however, my Pioneer 343 standalone player doesn't like them. My DVD-117 reads them just fine. I've only used DVD-R media in the drive on the DVD side. I can burn 16x CDr with no problems using true siliver/silver media. All in all, I love this drive. | I've had this for a week (Cendyne DVR-105, repackaged Pioneer) and love it. Burns at 2x with Maxell media and Apple Media (the ones that come with the iMac 17" model). I just got my order of 50 disks from Shop4Tech, but haven't tried 'em yet. CDR burning has been smooth, until last nite: I was burning a particular bin/cue with an extended cue file and the drive refused to burn it. I tried Nero (latest), CDRWin (also latest) with the identical result: an error message stating that the drive would not accept the paramaters in the cue file. Really wierd. | Hi All, I had the A04 before (still do) and now have the A05. Both are great. I use the cheapest DVD-Rs I can find. Multimedia store DVD Pro, 200 with 200 Store type DVD Cases for $202.00 US Dollars Free shiping. No Problems. I have burned about 30 movies with the Ao5 now and "NO" coasters. I use Dazzle II to capture the movies, then burn with DVD-It LE, Then I use Nero 5.5.9.9 OEM to burn copies. 100% good coppies. They all play in a cheap German stand alone player Called CAT, and my Sony NS-305 stand alone. Plays everytime. I have only used the cheap 1x DVD-Rs so far so don't know about the 2x 4x yet. I give it a 10 of 10. Buy it ! My Computer: Self Built, ASUS P4T533 Mother Board, 512 MB 1066 PC1200 RRDRM, Intel 2.5 GHz 533 MHz CPU, 2-80 GB Western Digital Hard Drives running on Raid 0, ASUS GeForce 4 Ti 4600 w/128 MB DDR RAM Graphics Card, Pioneer 116/2 DVD ROM, Pioneer A05 DVD Writer, Creative Sound Blaster Audigy Sound Card. I found that if you are going to do DVD Movies, you can't have too much power. Oh yes, Can you believe it? I am still runniny Win98 SE. XP is slower than Win98 SE when rendering the movies before burning. Also i don't like all the extra folders (I know you can take them out). OK Enough chatter. | I have my Pioneer DVR-A05 now for two weeks. I must say I am very satisfied with it. The only think I am having problem with are DVD-RW. I tried to format and used the DVD-RW that came with box and the DVD does not appear to recognize the media. I have tried different brand name (optodisc) I was able to start to format with roxio direct CD but after a couple minutes that fail too. I called Pioneer tech support and I was told that apper that few people is having the same problem and they are investigating the problem. As soon they have an answer they will call me - I hope soon. As far DVD-R media I had no problem at all. I did about 45 video DVD without any problem. Anyone out there is having the same problem, or it is specific my computer/DVR-A05? | I'm a newbie at burning Dvd's. I just bought the Pioneer DVR-105. I installed it and everything went well and everything was recognised in Win XP. I bought it in the hopes of 1)making data backups, 2)burning dvd movies, 3) burning x-box full image files. I tried burning with Verbatim Dvd-R and Emtec DVD-RW and DVD-R of an iso image file of a full X-Box Game from my hard drive with Nero and then I tried fireburner and got an error message both times. I then tried making a data backup and got an error message also. So I'm not sure if I need different software or better blank media. So no rating yet until i get it working. I am now using a trial version of Ulead DVD Movefactory which works great, and also Nero 5.x with the web update. 1. DVD-R Cheapest non-branded is not recgnized Melody is not recognized MaxMax okay Magic okay TDK okay Pioneer okay 2. | Hello Everyone. I just got and tested new DVR-105. Works just great. In the beggining I had issue with DMA settings. I had to switch back from DMA transfer mode to PIO, otherwise it would not work at all; it will give you all kind of hardware and communication errors. I haven't investigated it yet. I used TDK DVD-R47ABCB 2x disk (~$4.00), on which performed full 2x writting speed, however due to a CPU speed it was actually at about 1.7x. Those DVD-Rs come as a pakage of 40 disks Part # DVDR47ABCB40 and cost $159.99, Link:http://www.cdw.com/shop/products/default.asp?EDC=386139 Works absolutelly great in my Playstation 2 DVD player. Also tested TDK DVD-RW47S(~$4.99) which has 1x speed. So far those are all the disks I've tested. Drive came with one Pioneer 4x DVD-R and one 2x DVD-RW. Software is not very generous, Roxio 5 Basic, Pinnacle Format utill., and SonicMy DVD 4. Software used for burning and formating Nero. BTW: Cost of the drive is #335.00 on Insight: http://products.insight.com/product/Presentation/index.vm?product_id=PIDVRA0506 During the test it took about 50 minutes to burn 2 hour movie with 1x and uses about 50 to 70% of the CPU time (whole 100%CPU with 2x). | I bought the bundled version 4 days ago. I burned 7 (backup...)films so far on the cheapest DVD-Rs I could find (1,5 Euros each). They are just white(top)with no writing on them, come in a nameles spindle, DVD Decrypter identifies them as Princo. They burn at 1x, though. Filled them from 3.8 - 4.4 Gigs. Methods the films were made: Either DVD-Decrypter Isos, or stripped down with IfoEdit, or reduced in size with IfoEdit and Rempeg. I always make images with ifoedit, test them with Power DVD, and use DVD-Decrypter to burn them. I had a friend's HP 100 +RW for a few days, and frankly, Nero 5.5.9.17 scared me enough with it's erratic results to stop using it for DVDs (-R, +RW) :) So far: DVD Players tested on: Cyberhome AD-M212(with DVD-Rom Pioneer 116): Perfect! Cyberhome AD-M512(with DVD-Rom Cyber DM-86D) A few random "hick ups" on two films, but I guess my old DVD-Rom replacement is showing it's age.. Philips 743: Perfect Various PC DVD-Roms: Perfect I am still testing though. I only wrote this because it was mentioned here that the A05 doesn't aggree with cheap media. | Bought my full retail 105 today. Had trouble with my usual software such as Prassi and nero. Got an engine update for prassi and it works ok. Burns cheapo gen 1 disks but they wont play on DVD player. Only done one mind you and it was a film. Will try data later. testing on various new brands and will let ppl know. | just got it. Does not work with recordnow and cheap Datawrite classic DVD-R media!! Works with more expensive media like memorex silver. This A05 does not seem to be very compatible with cheap media. Aybody successful with burning with no name bulk DVD-R media? A new firmware might be a good idea for Pioneer to make?! | I just bought one last week its actually a cendyne AO5 but its the same as a pioneer AO5 even the computer says its pioneer not cendyne. It was between the Sony dru500A or this one the price difference was over $100 when I bought it at officemax,no contest their. Massive problems recognizing unbranded DVD-Rs (tested 11 different brands from Princo to Verbatim) - firmware, ripping-speeds are just poor. Error correction and DAE is the worst I've ever seen. I can't understand the good rating at vcdhelp. Had the chance to compare the PIO A05 with Toshiba SD-R5002 and Sony DRU-500A - couldn't believe the difference in performance and quality. | Here are my results. I don't think the A05 is all it is cracked up to be unless they release a firmware update to handle cheaper disks. I used nero, prassi and instant cd-dvd and used both the writer and a pioneer dvd-rom to read to test the written disks! Choice general purpose - forget it. Drive doesn't even recognise the disks. Choice 2x dvd-r - only got a successful burn at 1x Datawrite Classic - Recognised but no joy on reading. Datasafe 2x - good. Passed test at 1x and 2x. Datasafe 'yellow label' - good. passed test at 1x and 2x So as you can see, only a few disks work. Hope this helps! Comments posted by Donnie from Other, November 30, 2002.
