| Great DVD Writer, great CDR writer... no complaints whatsoever, works fine ..bought it for 250€ at local dealer here in Belgium. Burned a couple of dvd's with it, using DVDSchrink and Nero x.35. | After a tip from YoAnn I started working on support for currently unsupported discs :) I added a number of media codes (by replacing certain "future media" like RITEKG08 etc). This needed to be done in a special way and took me quite some time. I think everyone will be pleased with the results! My LEADDATA01 started to work with this method, so possible others will work too! Support for the following media codes has been added: NANYA (@2x) LEADDATA01 (@4x) SKC Co Ltd. (@2x) LONGTEN TECH (@4x) GSC001 (@2x) UTJG01001 (@2x) " " (6 times space) (@4x) CMC MAG.AF01 (@4x) Support for the following discs can be added also, but in that case I need to remove support for discs that are currently in the shops (LGE, OPTODISC, LD and TDKG010000d9 could be used for this :)) In case you're interested, drop me a PM with the media code you would like to add and which one to replace and mailaddress, so I can make it for you! | Have got some really strange problems with this burner. It refuses to accept my FujiFilm/Sony CD-RWs as RW, instead it shows up it's a CD-ROM (XP drive icon). | When i fisrt Got the NEC 1300a DVD-R i thought it was i load off s**t. :P but now i got some Good media for it and burned about 40 DVD on it all FINE may i add. | GREAT NEWS for all NEC ND 1300A owners!! Herrie has patched the current FW to be able to burn PRINCO-ID medias! Only 2x on 4x yet, but its due to the unavailability of a writestrategy (ACTOPC) for these 4x Princo-ID medias... | Got a black ND-1300 yesterday. Had some problem burning a home made DVD (Vegas 4 + DVDA 1) on Sony DVD+RW (DPW120VD). My Pioneer DV-545 and PC had problems reading some parts. Burnt the same movie on a "Clas Ohlson" (no-name?) DVD-RW disc (the case/disc doesn't tell the real disc manufacturer) and it worked just fine. NEC's "recommended media" list says Sonys DVD+RW should work!!!??? Paid 109 SEK (10 euro) for the Sony disc and 39 SEK (4 Euro) for the "no-name" DVD-RW. | I just tested some of my DVD-R discs burned with this writer on our optical testing machine at work. Outstanding burning quality! The A05-burned discs looks like crap compared to these. Used Maxell DVD-R 2X media in both cases. You have to see the graphs to realize what a HUGE difference there is between DVDR burners. I can say with confidence that high quality DVDR discs recorded with this burner will last a lifetime or more if you handle them correctly. | OK, after a loooong waiting time NEC released and I received that monster of a DVD±RW drive. lol The same drive in disguise is the TDK indiDVD 440N, BTW. TDK released a FW update 1.06x, but NEC didnt so far. I mailed NEC about the problems with cheap/most common DVD-R media and got a reply which contains an info that they plan to release an Firmware-update, but no date so far. The main problem for most users is the disadvantage to burn 4x DVD-R (and in general all DVD-media) with Princo-ID, which is very common in Europe, maybe in the US too. E.g. Bulkpaq Orange have an Princo-Id, so dont waste your time with em to get an ILLEGAL MEDIUM error. The drive itself can write this medias, only its firmware stops it to recognize them as USABLE media. Maybe someone out there have tried flashing/hacking the TDK Firmware(update) to make it useable with the NEC 1300A drive?! NEC must release a FW upgrade with major improvements for handling various MORE DVD-R brands or lots of NEC 1300A owners will stick with another Dual-burner by SONY (DRU-5xx/DWU-xx) or the soon released Pioneer DVR-x06 (which looks to me like an NEC 1300A with improved Firmware!! No joke!). I sucessfully tested some 2x (not 2x branded/verified) DVD-R with this drive with Prodisc02 ID (Optodisc) and DVD-R by Yakumo (german Vobis-own brand) aswell as with 2.4x DVD+RW by Meritline (Nonames), Philips, Ricoh, Intenso. | I got this drive today, plugged in the IDE and power cable turn on my computer. (I had an extra IDE slot, so there's no worries about master or slave) Windows XP recognizes the drive as DVD-R, and I used DVDXCopy and Nero to backup one of my movies (one that would fit on a disc all together) and it worked great. Nero AND Roxio say my drive is only 2x, but I only have tried one type of media so far Memorex DVD-R v2.0. | I had some problem at first, dvdr didnt work also the cdr. But then I found that the problem was on my mainboard. Did not work when I had the burner as master on the ide port. Then I changed to slave and it works fine even as "cable select". After 4 fails cause by the mainboard I have burned with 3 Datawrite DVD-R 2x(18 sek) in nero5.5.10.15. All plays perfect in my Pioneer 454, Pioneer DV-K301C (very old palyer)and also works in GeWang (a cheap player bought in China for $80). Disc loading is very slow. | Got mine on Friday. So far i've burned a few MMORE DVD+RWs (2.4x speed) and about 15 cheap Octron DVD-Rs (2x speed, from the German Lidl chain, 1.80 € a piece). Working great so far. No buffer-underruns, even when playing games while burning. The tray makes an uneven sound when opening/closing (not as smooth like my other CD/DVD drives). I wonder if this is normal? | Just Bought it last night!280 euro from a "coolnet" store.Managed to burn 5 movies so far all of them played back fine in a pioneer DV-454. The media compatibility it's quite tricky thought. Media I used: Philips +R burned fine at 2.4x That's (taiyo yuden) -R burned fine at 2.0x TDK -R burned fine at 2.0x Princo -R burned fine at 2.0x Princo -RW burned fine at 1.0x Creation -R was an unsuported format!!!(It's a Greek Media) CD's didn't have the time to check -Sorry- Software used was Padus DiscJuggler 1060. Roxio Easy CD-DVD 6 also suports this drive by getting an engine update from their site! Prassi primo DVD 2.0 Doesn't scan a compatible recorder thought and they still didn't provide a suitable update...! Comparing this one with my older Pioneer DVR/104 this one looks more promissing. The only problem is the restriction with some media brands which use to burn just fine ( Creation ) on Pioneer. Propably I'm gonna keep that one handy too! | I am very happy with my 1300, bought in Stockholm couple of weeks ago. No problems with 3t PRO media +R in 2.4x or with -RW 1x. Works fine in my standalone Pioneer 454 and in my PS2 SCPH 30004. Not one coaster out of twenty writes/rewrites and absolutely no skipping in my PS2 DVD games or DVD movies.
