| this drive is absolutley rubbish it was alright at first but then I started to get problems with disk reading I took it back to the shop and 2 weeks after doing so the shop went bust? | No problems at all. Bought it for 99€. This one is a lot better than 1004IB, which I destroyed with a firmware update. Good quality and writing speed. | Bought this recently in Computer World (UK) for £50 (c$80). Was very unhappy with it initially, as no proper instructions were with it, only ones for the included 7port card reader and USB port (which are great by the way - USB is FULL USB2). It would not take some Datawrite (+R & -R)discs that I had, nor the Memorex ones that I bought with the drive. A firmware update was done and now is very good at handling my discs. See BTC.com for a list of media that the drive can handle for each firmware update. It also comes with an option to use LiveUpdate to upgrade the firmware. For the first upgrade, you cannot use it! You HAVE to upgrade direct from the BTC site, THEN use the LiveUpdate from then on. After initial problems, all cleared up now. The additional ports are on a single cable and plug onto the motherboard direct, so if your motherboard hasn't got the connection on it, don't buy this! It doesn't tell you on the box. I use this with Nero 6 to produce +R discs which work well on my Cyberhome 405 & Wharfedale 750 and a Mico one the son has. Comments posted by Roy Stone from United Kingdom, July 08, 2004.
