I have really enjoyed this burner. Had it now for 3 months, and I have had no problems, until recently. I had some problems burning on CMC Mag DVD+R media. I then updated the firmware from Memorex support, and am back burning again, no problems.

I would recommend this burner, but like the other guy said, the software included is crap. I recommend using Nero 6. Works like a charm for me... :)

Bought this product in CircuitCity. Installed the product and the accompanying Nero CD/DVD burner software.

1. When I tried to capture the video from the DV camera, was getting "Unable to analyze the captured file <filename>". Then I did some research and figured out that the software needs to be updated. I downloaded the software from www.memorex.com (60megs) and upgraded the Nero software suite for memorex. After that, I updated the sofware using Update in the Nero Smart Start (this will update the software from the Nero web site). Then I captured the video from the DV camera. Everything worked fine. I was excited. It took me more than an hour to capture the 60 min cassette, which I can understand.

2. Then I edited the movie to add transitions and effects. This is a gruelling process. I also noticed during this process, the captured movie was not smooth. Looks like the software dropped many frames during the capture process. I am not sure if there is an option to tell the software not to drop any frames during capture. My personal opinion is that the software needs to mature in the editing area. This took me few hours to go through the entire movie and splitting the scenes. The automatic splitting scenes had different results than what I wanted.

3. Then I created the chapters and menu. This is also painful process. There is an option to auto-detect the chapters, but I dont think it is going to give you the results that you want.

4. Finally I burnt the image on the DVD disc. When I played the DVD on Panasonic DVD player, I was totally disappointed.

a. Movie was not smooth.
b. Frames were freezing.
c. It stopped playing in the middle. We had to skip and then play again.
d. Rewind and Forward options are not working properly.
e. Since the frames were dropped during the capture process, sound track was breaking out.

Summary: I will not recommend this product, because of the issues with the DVD burner software.

I sent this message to the memorex customer service and got the following reply. consumerrelation@memorex.com

Two suggestions to make this process cleaner and less painful. 1) Try capturing the Video with the software supplied with the capture card, you will have less issues with dropped frames and sound. 2) Try a different DVD media and see if the controls will work better.
