| Comes as superdrive on a 12" G4 Powerbook 1.33GHz , good for general purpose, but a bit behind today´s standards, treats 8x media as 2x, recording reliability is highly media dependant, records 4x with original Apple media and Verbatim 4x DVD-R (records DVD+R on some brands only), Tech support from Apple and Matsushita regarding ROM updates is nonexisting..... | Good writer but it definitely does NOT support correctly all 8x speed DVD-R media because it writes them only at 2X instead of 4X since its 4x speed drive(for DVD-R media only). It's definately a firmware issue. But don't e-mail or call to any Matshita/Panasonic support for new firmware. I've been doing this since 2004. They all ignore this problem. They advice to use 4X speed A-brand discs like TDK Verbatim but all A-brand media present on the market are 1x-8x now. Comments posted by Ivan Gurzhyy from Ukraine, September 03, 2005. | It is ok. It came in my new iMac G5. It would not burn 4x ProDisc's at 4x, it would only do burn them at 2x. This was using toast, even getting info on the discs in toast it said they were only 2x compatible. Ritek G04 media has been working well for me though. | I have this drive on my Acer Ferrari 3200 Laptop and the only compatibility problem i'm having is when using Nero 6 to burn DVD+R it give th error after it finish burning that it cannot complete the Disc-At-Once process and it leaves the session open, this is fine for data but for DVD movies, they only play on my laptop. | i bought this drive in the computer show on sunday i had some dvd-r blanks and copied an movie it worked great used an blank cd and made an svcd worked great i did not make much use of it ony problem i had it take a bit longer to reconize an dvd longer than my pioneer 104 but sure does more than my pioneer i got an usb encloser intalled in it an use it as an portiable drive i would rate it 9 out of 10 Comments posted by nick from Canada, October 18, 2004.
