| Sent unit back to ikebana,got it back.The people at ikebana replaced the drive unit.So far it seems to work O K.Reads and writes to dvd -r/rw and dvd +r/rw.I use sony and tdk disc.Disc plays on Daewoo and Emerson stand alone players. | Bough this ikebana usb last June,made 2 dvds and then about 2dozen costers.It will start to write then stop .message says (failed to write to disc).On dvd+r disc you make a coster.On dvd+rw sometimes it is a coster and sometimes it can be erased and used again.I am sending it back for repairs or replacement. | I got this Ikebana brand DVD+RW drive (Ricoh OEM 5120A) with great deal ($119 AR) from Outpost. I can burn DVD+RW in 2.4X no problem. I used the cheapist DVD+RW discs I could find: $2.30 ea, DVD-ON, from http://www.dvd-rwmedia.com/. Burning CDs is also fine. Comments posted by tke918 from Other, December 26, 2002. | Got this burner recently. Got external firewire version. software included seems pretty poor with the exception of player software. PowerDVD I think. Have backed up quite a few DVD's and not had a coaster yet. Seems like a good unit. Seems like the speed is pretty good, but I don't have a frame of reference. Takes about 20-25 mins a disk. One major beef: You can't use a network adapter while the DVD is connected with firewire. Got some major blue screens in WinXP trying to do it. What I have to do is disable the nic while I'm burning or reading from the drive. Major PIA! Then afterward disable the drive and re-enable the nic. Suppose If I got internal, this wouldn't have been a problem. But I like the portablility of the drive. Nothing I've burnt will play on my old Apex 600a. Everything plays on my Philips 724. | I'm having problems with the Rima DVD+R discs. The drive just keeps blinking and nothing happens. I bought it based on earlier comments on this forum. Should I only use HP DVD+R/+RW's? | Bought the external usb 2.0 version from PC zones. Seems to work fine. But I could not find any documentation on burning video DVD's with the included software. | I've had the internal IDE version of this drive (like almost all +r/+rw drives, it's a Ricoh 5125) for a couple of weeks and am very happy with it.
