| After having 2 other DVD burners, I found the HP DC4000 to be a dream to use. The ability to plug your video camera, or VCR directly into this device and make a direct copy of the video camera or VCR is wonderful, while still having the ability to read it directly into the PC for editing and then making your burn is great. I have made about 12 burns so far, it seems to have no problems at all using HP brand disks, but when using TDK, I had 1 bad burn out of 3 copys. So I'll stick with using the HP brand disks. This is a great device for the laptop user, and I am sure even desktop users, will have a blast with it, esp when wanting to just copy VCR tapes right over to DVD disks. | I bought the HP dc 4000 External 8X DVD Movie Writer about two weeks ago and am very happy with it.I already had a Pioneer 104 internal DVD drive 1X burner in my system and had been using it with a Dazzle DVD Creation station to capture and burn home VCR tapes.The HP dc 4000 has a built in capture card, is much simpler to use, and is much faster. It gives the beginner a very simple "Quick copy" program which works very well, but also includes Arc Soft's Show Biz 2, which gives you the option to edit your videos and create a DVD with chapters etc. I like the Arc Soft program very much. It is almost instinctive, and gives you a lot of choices. The drive though is the best part of the bargin. It has burned about 20 disks so far, is very fast( it seems to burn 1X disks much faster than the Pioneer)and has burned several brands of disks with no problem yet.I have used Ritec, Maxell, Fugi, Verbatum,Princo, and alolmediaoutlet.com's house brand with no failures. So far all of the disks I have burned have played on several different stand alone players.(Apex ad-1200, Toshiba T 220, AMW, and Sony) I am very happy with my purchase and am looking forward to new projects as I get more familiar with the Arc Soft editor.
