Works fine with a Mac in a Freecom Portable Drive case.
With PatchBurn it is even recognised as a superdrive.
No coasters yet.

Rien a re dire car a la base c'etait un 411S qui est devenu par le temps un 451S puis devenu le fameux 832S.

I've been using my Lite-On SOHW-832S for 4 monts since september 2004 and I have never had problems with it :-) No matter what kind of medium I put in it, this drive manages to burn it successfully. It prefers DVD+R before the DVD-R media indeed, and burn the DVD+R at a higher speed, but this isn't a problem for me :-)

I bought this writer in July 2004 and I use it since that time to burn DVD and CD; I use it 10 times/week and every time it works very well; I never lose a media with it.
So I'm very satisfy with this purchase and I recommand it.
Also it is very quiet; before I was using a Plextor CD writer 16/10/40A which was very noisy.
My LiteON 832 is installed in a USB2 DriveKit from ADS so I can use it on differents computers and it works well with all of them

Works well. Not the fastest burner out there, but it does achieve notariety as being the first sub-$100 DL burner. No coasters yet, but I've only tried two batches (both +R). No DL discs themselves burned yet (the suckers are still too expensive).

I bought this liteon drive from dabs for about £60 due to its small size it fits in my mini system.
I found it to be very quiet during burns and general playback.
But i have found that this drive does'nt like minus dvdr and prefers the plus sign.
As i have only tested this drive with minus discs and have found that the folowing discs end up as coaster's:
bulkpaq orange 4X
lead data 4X
datawrite red tops 4X
The only exception being datawrite grey top 8X which burn at the full speed with the latest firmware,but they do skip or jitter a little on playback in my panasonic dvd r32 settop box.
But ritek silver 4X tend to be the order of the day with this writer as they are produce flawless copies but one word of advise please disable your virus protection and any other power hungry programs.
Its also a good idea to to adjust your performance settings to do this go to control panel then double click the system icon then from the stystem properities box select the advanced tab then performance settings and finaly click adjust for best performance.
This should ensure you get the best from your cpu and your writer.

Another Reliable DVD writer from Lite-On. Forget Buying "Name Brand" this Unit for under $85 packs a huge wallop, without draining your wallet.

Got this from Newegg.com for around $85 with free shipping, and Installed it in a brand new AMD Athlon 64 system. Worth the bucks and you won't be let down.

very good burner. bought as a replacement for a plextor 708A. the Lite-on is very quiet and it also seems to work well with Ritek/Ridata G04 and also TY disks. one thing the drive doesnt allow burn speeds of 8X on 4X media. my old plextor could burn TDK 4X at 8X speed. the Lite-on also has no problems with verifying disks using nero 6 Ultra. whereas the plextor would fail the verify portion of a burn using Ritek/Ridata media. this is a solid drive but the company doesn't have the brand recongnition of say Plextor or pioneer. ohh and the read speeds for DVD are pretty good. I have noticed that lots of DVD burners are slow as molasses when it comes to reading a DVD.

Bought as a replacement for my Pioneer 104. Great drive currently used with Ritek G4 / G5 and MCC manufactured disks. Not DVD+R DL media with it or availabe jet to test. Gave it 9 cos the build quality was not as good as the pioneer (although it was £300 when I bought it 3 years ago).

Another plus is this drive is smaller than my DVD-ROM so will fit in cases that have limited depth much easier.

DVD Write types
CAV = Constant Angular Velocity, the DVD is written at a constantly increasing speed.
CLV = Constant Linear Velocity, the DVD is written at a constant speed.
ZCLV = Zone Constant Linear Velocity, the DVD is divided into zones. After each zone the write speed is increased.
PCAV = Partial Constant Angular Velocity, the DVD is being written at an increasing speed until a certain speed. After this speed it will not increase anymore.
