| Well -- in the first system this drive worked quite well; however, in a second system it started ejecting the media crooked, thus wrecking the media. | I have been using this DVD writer for 2 years with my laptop via USB 2.0. It generally works fine, but I had problems especially with DVD+RW discs. I am now trying to use it via Firewire (CB1394 PCMCIA card by StarTech), but my laptop does not even detect the writer. It may be a PC problem, since the 1394 Mass Storage Driver (Sbp2port.sys) is not present in my laptop. I guess I will have to continue using it via USB. | I bought this BUSlink DVD+-/RW/+-R Drive for $79. I am using it in a Linux environment. The DVDs play fine with Xine. I primarily bought it to backup data. The software I'm using is mkisofs to prepare the backup image, and cdrecord or dvdrecord to write the data to the CD or DVD media, respectively. When I ran "dvdrecord -scanbus" it read the following information about the drive: 1,0,0 100) 'LITE-ON ' 'DVDRW LDW-851S ' 'GS0C' For some reason it states that it's a Lite-On Drive? So far everything I've used it for (CD-RWs, CD-Rs, DVD-Rs) it has worked great. While reading the manual there was one thing that bothered me, it states: "Caution, if you used up the region code selection, the drive will stay at the last region you selected." Maybe this is the case with all computer DVD players/writers, but I'm unsure, and have many region DVDs -- so this would be the reason I wouldn't give the BUSLink DVRW812D a "10." | Unsatisfied so far w/ my dvd burner. I bought a Buslink DVRW812D and everytime I try to make a backup of one of my dvd's it gives me a write protection error and references an I/O device error???
