| With original firmware, it burns only 4x (or slower) discs. Updated firmware lets you burn 8x media, but at 4x speed. 16x is not supported at all. The drive have lots of problems (bad blocks, coasters) with many DVD+R discs at any speed, but DVD-R seems fine, even low quality ones. DVD burning takes twice as long as it should, approx. 25 minutes at 4x. CD-R and CD-RW burns are flawless. Read speeds are as advertised, seek times are about 30% greater. | I havent got the chance to burn any DVD's because all of my medias is 16x DVD+R (Memorex & TDK), somehow it says that my media are either finalised/closed(nero) or not empty(dvddecypter). although it burns flawlessly on CD-Rs. If someone found a way to recognise 16x medias even for 2x burning pls post as it is getting rare nowadays to buy 4x rated speed DVD medias. | With original firmware 1030/1730 maximum compatible DVD speed is 4x. Upgraded 1032/1732 can burn 8x DVDs at max. My Toshiba sees blank TDK DVD+R 16x as closed/finalised. UlTran DVD+R 8x burnt at any speed is full of bad sectors end with error message (cannot write lead-out) when trying to write full disc. | SD-R6372: It can't read DVD-R what it burns if more than 2-3 GB/disk. But DVD-R burned by SD-R6372 can be read by other DVD-writers such as Pioneer. I can't find any solution. | I have ASUS with this Toshiba ODD-DVD SD-R6372, F/W 1732. It seems that it cannot read DVD-R what it burns! I have tried to test these discs after burning to other dvdroms with a sucessful outcome, they were readable perfectly! I was thinking of doing many things, such as throwing it away forever.... | Have this burner in my Targa Notebook. It burns all 8X and 4X -R Media that I´ve tested only with 2X speed ( MCC, Princo, Ritek ). The 8X +R Media ( MCC, Sony ) it burns with 2,4 speed. Nero shows me that it is burning all these Medias with 4X speed, but the time is 30 minutes for the -R, and 25 minutes for the +R. Today I found the first Media that I could burn with 4X speed. | Burned a couple of DVD-R 's with my Acer 292LMI laptop, plays OK in the laptop and my cheap LG DVD player, but will not play in my old Pioneer 717 DVD player, just get a few broken up pixels displayed then locks up. | I found this on a newsgroup: I just talked to the German Toshiba phone support and they already have the new firmware 1031. It will support 8x media and there will be some updates regarding the writing strategy. However, the changelog won't be published. The upgrade should be available in the beginning of October. | Wont burn 4x tdk dvd+r's, won't burn the 4x's even at 2x, piece of crap! will butn tdk 4x dvd-r at 2.4x -- why?? Definate media compatability issues. | I just upgraded my Gateway laptop with the Toshiba SD-R6372. I've burnt Memorex DVD-R's at 4X with no problems. It took a little over 17 minutes to burn a full DVD movie. Installation was a breeze, and Nero took to the new burner instantly. I will try DVD+R's and +/-RW's next. Comments posted by eMARTY69 from United States, April 13, 2004.
