| this is my first dvd writter and i upgraded with firmware A101. But i have problem with the Legacy DVD-R with media code "GSC002" it can burn 4x but it takes hours to finish and after burning u cannot playback with the dvd rom or dvd player. i dont think i have a problem with the writter coz i tried it with other cheaper media and it works fine with 2x speed. can anyone give advice which best media can i use. thanx!!! | Bad luck here... Just bought a brand new LG GSA-4081B, burned 7 DVD+R's&1 DVD-RAM (included) and the drive stopped to recognize media (it stopped even to spin-up the disk) - S%$t!! Repair will take 2 weeks... Regards josuah08 p.s. Generally it's a good mark & good drive - full speed - no problems. | Just bought this Dvd Writer yesterday. It works perfectly for me. I have made a data cd, made a svcd and used dvd x copy to backup a dvd movie :o) I am using the memorex dvd-r discs. | Hi! Less than a week, but I can say it's great! I'm just sorry I cannot answer to that question if it works on 8x, but no dvd lost till now. At first I searched for 4040b, I saw in november, but now unavailable here in Italy. 4081 was presented here at the end of january, last week I had it with new pc. Firmware is A300 and I don't know how to find successive firmware & upgrade it... (if anyone can tell me... thanx). | Very good dvd writer. In Spain 110 euros / 139 USD (taxes included) Problems burning Sky discs (4x), after some test, i think that must be the discs, not the writer. i toasted 8 discs from a 10 spindle :( now i use platinum 4x discs. with nero 6.3.0.3 ultra i had no problem, but i can burn only at 4x, i think that it's a problem of nero with the writer's firmware, cause CloneDVD can burn dvds at 8x (dvds designed to 4x!!!!!) without problem. sorry for my english Comments posted by heavy from Europe, February 11, 2004. | The LG - 4081B rocks, I got it for 100 buck oem from a computer swap meet. I tested the drive, it can burn most of the generic brands: GQ, PINE, No-Brand Name without any problem. I used Dvd X Copy and Nero 6 Ultra, and there are no problem as of now. I have burned almost 70 dvds (DvD-R and some DvD+R), and none of the disks gone bad. My computer spec: Pentium 4 3.0 Gz, 2 gig-rams ddr400, ATI Radeon 9800 256 rams. OS: Window XP My rating for the LG 4081B is 9 out 10. | Does not recognize many 4X media. Originally I bought GSA 4040B OEM version, but it wouldn't recognize most 4X media despite the firmware upgrade to A301. I sent it to LG Canada (there was no A302 upgrade available at that time). Surprisingly LG sent me back retail box of GSA 4081B, but it has same problem: recognizes most discs as 2X. It formatted Maxell DVD-RAM (3x compatible, the one included in the box) in 20 min. but took 40 min. to write to it. Drive burns well, no wasted discs, but LG is having very hard time to make its burners work according to specifications. | I´ve installed the drive and I had no problem during the installation, the dirve was inmediately recognized. I´m running W98SE and this is my first DVD burner. I bought it ´cause I do a lot of VCD´s and SVCD´s and I was dissapointed with the quality obtained. My first burnt disc with Nero 6.0 (with the DVDRW included in the package) was outstanding and played very well in my DVD stand alone player Panasonic S35. Good product! | I bought this DVD-Writer here in Germany for only 134EUR, and one hour later I made the first backup on double-sided DVD-RAM from TDK [Attention: about 50-60min to format one side of the DVD-RAM!!], great. | Have not tried the "included" software with this drive. Instead, have been running Nero 6 Ultra. Nero works for the drive, but only at 2x for -R media (Mitsumi branded) and 2.4X for +RW media (HP Branded). This drive is not yet listed as supported by Nero - but I'm used to Nero for CD burning on my old computer, so that's why I've stuck with it. I'm sure it's just a matter of time until either Nero sends out an update for the drive or LG upgrades the firmware. My rating of 7 is because I've never used any other DVD burners. The drive certainly works as I would expect though - every disk I've burnt has worked so far. I've even made back-ups of DVD movies that worked with both the +RW and -R disks on both of my DVD players (Pioneer DV-440 and Malata DVP-393) and my neighbours Bose system (sorry, don't know the model number). | I got mine Lg GSA 4081BI (retail version with software) a few days ago. The included packet writing software, shockingly enough, doesn't list or support this model! It does ship with Neodvd(dvd authoring, burning), which works fine, Powerdvd, plus some off-brand packet and data writing software which doesn't support this drive. It also ships with a DVD ram driver and disk. I dual-boot, and Nero 6(OEM) on my other boot can't write to it. I'll download and try Nero full and see if that works.The included packet/data software will only write to my HP cdrw 9900j drive fine,but not the 4081. The drive itself seems ok, but aside from Neodvd and Powerdvd, the driver software is poor. I guess they figure people will use Nero or Roxio, anyway. | It is a week now since i bought the LG GSA-4081B and i am prety satisfied with it. The first day i bought it, i wrote 5 DVD-/+Rs and a DVD+RW. Each one, was from different manufacturers and there was no problem. They were all writen at maximum speed and i had no coasters. I am looking forward to trying some 8x media to check how it burns them. No problem with compatibility. It can copy protected cds without difficulty. I guess, it can do this so easily, because of the mechanism it has, which is capable of reading scratched cds and dvds as if they were just brand new. The only thing i am disapointed about is LG's support sites, which luck of information and software. Some of them, dont even mention this drive. Its a pity, because its a great drive. | No Problems!! Everything works great, and it is compatible to every Programm I found! I wasn't able to test the 8X Speed, because I only have Noname 1X discs, and I can write them 4X! I hope, there will be Firmware-Updates soon, to add 8X DVD-R support and DVD+R9 support (when aviable) But as far I am very satisfied! | Just bought a GSA-4081B. Great price (im a parts dealer), burns all media, even the cheap stuff, and even + work on my toshiba dvd player. Only down side, a few programs dont recognize the drive yet. but that should be solved pretty soon. Currently i use nero and instantcopy, and they do the job just fine. Great Product.
