| This is my first one, My PC with AMD 2600+ 1G.Mem,Run WinXP Pro. Do nothing (even Driver for), Just Recorded Ton of CDs and DVDs from Files, CDs Movies, Data,..etc..So far no any problems.....I recommend anyone who wants a simple DVD or CD copies..Used with LG bundle software (included NEO Plus...) | I bought this burner beginning 2004, I could burn -R media at max 2X. After having upgraded it to A104 firmware, I have been able to burn -R at 4X. Very reliable burner, never wasted a disk. Still have to try to burn at 8X with 8X +R. I am on the market to buy a cheap spindle of 8X +R and then I will see what I can do with the burner. | I've had a 4081B for about 9 months. To begin with it was fine although sometimes very slow. Recently I was experiencing a few burn errors (using Nero 6) so I upgraded firmware to 104A. Not sure if this stuffed things up, but now I can't burm DVDs at all. CDs are still OK. I read that others have had similar problems. Comments posted by MINIMOKE from Australia, September 01, 2004. | Bought this burner 2 weeks ago with generic 4x -r media. Until today it would only burn at 2x, but I did the firware update to A104 and it now burns at 4X with this media flawlessly. | Recently i upgrade my 4081BA101 to A104 , because it doesn't read most DVD and when i burned DVDs it will not read them . Then after rebooting , nothing works.My DVD does not read any cds or dvds formats, even it doesn't spin the DVD.I went to the LG site and there was no service. it was a waste of time so I decide to buy now another brand name Plextor to have less headache.Don' t know if it was the firmware or the unit itself. | My 4081 warranty replacement that I received in March failed to burn any disk (nero report tracking or focus error) this is my second LG in 6 months, now trying to contact with LG for another replacement. | This drive is Absolute DUNG with a capitol D! I've had it for about 2 months now on an athlon 2200 xp with 512 megs of RAM and 2 Maxtor 120 GB 7200 RPM HDs. I used it mainly for backing up DVDs, And yes I updated the firmware as soon as I installed it and the firmware upgrade went smoothly. I always had problems writing at 4x no metter what software I used....usually got "servo tracking failure" error after burning up to around 95%.....also always had problems with DVD+RW and DVD-RW. | I called their toll free number as per the instructions for warrenty on their web page on a Monday, explained my situation and they asked me a few questions and then they faxed me a request form for RMA, I faxed it back and since I live quite near they actually allow me to do a straight exchange at their office on Friday. | Was a great drive until one fine day it burned me 3 coasters (cd-r). burned a perfectly good dvd-r video before this prob. fixed the prob with the firmware upgrade. now, im burning w/o probls. then 2day, this great tradegy struck: tried to burn a video dvd-r but created a coaster instead. tried 2 more times using diff methods (using dvdxcopy instead of nero, running no other prgs at all) but to no avail. but the drive still managed to burn cd-rs (also burned 5 dvd+rs b4 this prob surfaced w/o any trouble). is this new firmware preventing me from burning videos onto dvd-rs? dont know- waiting for the tech support email (the website really suxs). anyone here who has a similar prob or a contrasting view to mine ps email me. thanx Comments posted by David T from Sweden, April 12, 2004. | I bought the OEM version of this writer about a month ago, and have had nothing but excellent results. I've written DVDs that I could play on my Sony DVD player (which is finicky with the type of discs it'll recognize), as well as backup and storage discs. No problems writing at 4x. | This is a warrenty replacement of my LG 4040 which only lasted for 3 months, I hope the 4081 will last longer, to my surprise LG replaced my faulty 4040 with a retail box 4081. IMO, this 4081 is only a new revision of the 4040 with added bonus of DVD+R 8X burning, don't have media to test so no idea if it works. My drive is manufactured in December 2003 and comes with A100 firmware, flashed with A101 and so far so good, hope it will last much much longer than previous 4040. | LG GSA-4081B in use for more than a month. Works perfectly on a P4-2,6MHz/512ram/WinXPpro. I have copy to DVDs more than 40 movies using AnyDVD for deprotection, Nero Recode + Nero Burning 6.3.0.3 for compression and burning. Movie copies are in best quality, I can't see a visible loss in video. Using cheap DVD-R at 4x speed. I apply the firmware A101 but I haven't test any other media yet. | Me again, i got new medias to try, and now the drive shows how fast it can be on 4x for DVD-R...it takes about 13 min to burn a full disc (4.7 gb). Pretty Good..maybe soon we can update the firmware to burn dvd-r 8X. Medias that i tried on 4x speed: Maxell DVD-R 4x (Work 4x) Maxell DVD-RAM 3x 2.1 (Work 3x) Ritek DVD-R 4X (Work 4x) Princo DVD-R 4x (Work 4X) Pine DVD-R 4x (2x only) Now i rate 10 of 10 to this drive. | Good drive, not lost any burns, yet :-) The major bug I have is that the drive shows all blank unburned DVD discs are shown as loaded with a file (track01.cda), this is by all software accessing the drive & on 2 seperate PC's but it didn't occur until after 2nd successful DVD burn, odd!?! Discovered that if I ignored the reported file I could still force a complete and successful burn to the blank disk using neoDVD plus 5. But it's a worry that this phantom file is shown. About to load firmware A101, LG's web site is slow & unfriendly, should be fun. Sod LG they're cr@p, used Dangerous Brothers at http://tdb.rpc1.org/#GSA4081B , did the job!! | Very Good drive...first thing i did was upgrade the firmware to A101. But just one problem...i got pine spindle 4x media..but it burns just at 2x using nero 6 and easy cd dvd creator 6) I dont have another media to try yet.
