| This is my fifth DVD burner. I used to own the Nec 1100a, Optorite dd0201, Pioneer 106d, Plextor 708a, and now the Nec 2500a. The Nec 1100a was my first burner and it worked great, except that it was only positive, and I wanted to upgrade to a dual format for better compatibilities. The Optorite was a mistake from the start; it kept giving me coasters, killing me dollar by dollar. Then I purchased a Pioneer 106d due to the high recommendation, but it was useless. DVD-Videos that were burned from it kept freezing during playback. Being so frustrated, I decided to go ahead and spend the extra money on the Plextor 708a. After using it for a week, I was disappointed by the fact that it doesn’t accept cheap media, playback compatibilities was mixed with my home DVD player, and that it only record 4x on dvd-r (should of pay more attention to spec:). But now, I have to say that I should have stuck with Nec from the start. This burner is AMAZING, from the price to the performance and quality. Fixed all problems that I had been experiencing. All of the media that I have (cheap and expensive) burn flawlessly. Fixed all playback issues that the Pioneer and Plextor had. I have not experience any problem of what-so-ever with this burner. | Nero Info tool says it does have buffer underrun protection and that is supports write modes of RAW SAO, RAW SAO 96, and RAW DAO 96. I don't know if those are the same things or not. I have burned two disks since getting it, and have had no problems. It is nice and quiet, works fast, and both disks have been able to read on my DVD player. | Hi, I've just ordered the ND-2500A after reading all the great opinions posted here regarding this drive. However, after placing my order, a friend who works in the computer business told me this drive has many disadvantages that make it worthless: 1. This drive does not read nor burns RAW mode - this mode is needed in order to copy write-protected DVDs. 2. This drive does not have any failsafe mechanism (burnproff, seamless link, etc.) which means you're exposed to the 'buffer underrun' problem. 3. This drive does not support overburning, a feature that allows you to burn over the capacity of a normal DVD. This friend uses optorite DVD+-RW (http://www.optorite.com/newproducts.htm) that costs less and has all these features. So, I want to consult with you, all ND-2500A users, that surely know - does this drive has burnproof mechanism, overburn and RAW mode? | Just bougth it and have tested to burn a movie and no problems at all. Very quiet no noice at all. | I got this drive today 2-day air and burned 3 TDK-4Xs at 6X successfully. It was so quiet that I didn't know it was finished until it poped out. | Like I wrote on rpc1.org .. I bought this in hope of getting better burning results from my frosted Ritek G04 medias. Burned with my old NEC 1300A I get very mixed results, I always have to check that I can actually READ the burned DVD after the burn. With the NEC 2500A the reading pattern (Nero cd/dvd-speed) was at least a bit better (on my Toshiba 1712 DVD-ROM drive), cycling between reading speeds of 2X - 6X and never failing. But the test that put the nail in the coffin, and makes me return the drive today, was when I tried doing the same test, just reading the disc with the burner NEC 2500A itself .. it failed miserably :-( at 10% of the disc it reported unrecoverable read error. Maybe this drive provides overall better wriet quality than the old NEC 1300A, but not for my medias .. | Got my NEC ND-2500 bluk Black today. Have burn one dvd-r at 4x (Datawrite media) and the player rocks! And it´s so quiet both when it write and read. Also brun two CD-r at 32x. Worked fine to. | Got this drive to replace my Ricoh RW5125A (2.4X +R/+RW Only) I just got it this morning. I have burned full 3 DVDs so far. 1: Record Now Max 4.5, TDK 4X DVD+R media took about 12 minutes to burn a 4.36GB DVD. R.N.M didn't show the speed but must have been 4X. 2: Nero 6, TDK 4X DVD+R media took about 9.5 minutes to burn a 4.36GB DVD. Nero showed as 6X. Not bad for 4X media I guess. 3: Nero 6, Verbatim 2.4X DVD+R media took about 24 minutes to burn a 4.36GB DVD. Nero showed as 2.4X. So far so good I suppose. | I bought this drive because it was cheep and had pretty fast cd-r burning and 8x for dvds. I love it i have burned atleast 20 dvds and no coasters and i have burned about 10 cds all work prefect. I have tried all kinds of media and it all seems to work fine. I also like it because it works very well with my cheep media. I highly recommend this drive. | WHAT A DVD-WRITER ... Gotten this fantastic drive today at a local dealer ... Tested all medias, my old NEC1300A won't burn ... It works!!! All medias were written perfect and have obviously no errors. The best drive I've ever seen (so far). Plextor should be faster at +R 8x, but this drive burns some -R 4x at 8x (mostly between 6-8x) What shall I say - Get out and buy this drive! | Dvd Writing career included Pioneer 103/104/105/106 and their over-glorified status and Pioneer's BS sabotage on labelling. Sony expensive arty-farty crappy 500 & 510 and their trail of destructive incompatiblites. Finally Nec-1300a.. slight miss on the Princos but now the 2500a, it burns all the stuff that others won't, including the closet-full of TDKG02... what burning strategy crap and faded recordings? Silent and quality drive and no politiking about labelling, or fanboy worshipping crap about drives that have yet to materialise. It works. | This is my first DVD writer. I yanked out my PlexWriter CDR and plugged this in without having to change or install anything else. I've probably burned 12 DVDs so far and haven't had any problems at all. I've tried TDK -rw 2x, Memorex +rw 4x, and Ritek G04 -r 4x, all at their rated speeds (not sure how to make Nero try anything faster). This is pretty cool. | Bought it today and it rocks! Though not as fast as the +r 8x drives (plextor,liteon) ,the writing quality is superb!This happens due to the smooth transition during writing... 4->6->8x !!! | I bought this drive from accupc.com @ $125 w/shipping. The drive tray is very quiet sliding in/out, and excellent anti-dust seal. Now lets talk about DVD burning. I have burnt DVD media(-R only) from generic, TDK, Samsung, Memorex, and JVC at rated speed. The FUJIFILM DVD-R is rated at 4x and it burnt at 8x using Nero 6 to burn DVD compliant video. It took 9 min and 27 sec to burn 4.7Gig VIDEO_TS folder. Although I selected 8x speed, it's more likely 6x. I highly recommend this drive. | LOVE THIS DRIVE! I just received and have burnt DVDs, SVCDs, VCDs and Data files in a DVD format using Memorex DVD-R Media. The drive is so quiet. I was about to by the Plextor 708-A with Roxio (yuck), but I found the ND-2500A with Nero 6 OEM Suite for near half the cost. For those of you who have ReplayTV's (I can speak for the 5000 series), Nero 6 OEM Suite reads the unique MPEG file and allows me to burn the show onto DVD, SVCD or VCD!! I remember when I read other forums that said I needed to use Wobble(?) and then TMPGE and then I was able to burn to a DVD. Now with Nero 6, I just used DVArchive to download the show onto my computer and opened it with Nero 6! BAAM!! That's it!! Love it!! Comments posted by mtooth from Other, January 16, 2004.
