| Looked around for a burner for quite a while before finally buying. Everything I read about this drive was positive, and the price seemed reasonable. This Burner is fantastic... quiet and fast. It burned 4x Maxell DVD+R's perfectly at 6x. I burned some Verbatim DVD+RW's and had no problems playing them in my cheap DVD players (APEX and Electrohome). | I bought a Sony Vaio mainly for the movie making software and the DVD burner that came with it. But...the software was not that good, and the burner would not accept most DVD-R media. I bought these unknown 1x DVD-R with a white coated cover, and a 25 pack of this ugly orange (4x ritek). Neither work on my Sony VAIO. With the help of this site, I ended up buying the 8x NEC 2500a. | I bought this NEC 2500a 2 days ago and I can tell it burns much better than the LiteOn 411S . Been burning fine with Compusa DVD +R 2.4, Compusa DVR -R, Fuji -R . The drive is extremely quiet even though the ripping speed seems slower than the LiteOn 411S so I use the LiteOn to rip and then burn with the NEC !!! | A good burner for the price and eventhough no software or cables came with it, I can live with it for the price I bought it. I had to deduct 1 point because NERO writes files to DVD-RW or DVD+RW but once you try to access it, the system locks up or do not even recognize the file. I had to restart my system several times after trying to view my backup files. I deducted another point because there's no 8X DVD's available that I can test unless I order online. If this burner can truly burn at 8X - I'll add another point. I really don't complain about the rip speed since I'm not that much in a hurry to rip anyway. | After checking these reviews and user comments I went for the NEC 2500 DVD burner and I am also well impressed. It's my first DVD burner and I'm glad I finally jumped on the bandwagon. So far it works perfectly, and hasnt given me any problems using Princo 4X DVD-R media. No coasters yet :-) *touches wood* My only for reason for not giving it a perfect 10/10 is that it is a bit slow at ripping DVD movies. I played around with DVD Shrink yesterday, before I got my new NEC drive today, and have to say that my old Creative 6X DVD-ROM ripped a bit quicker... only by a few minutes but hey. | AMAZING drive! My previous drive was LG GSA-4040B and now I know how bad the LG really was. The burn quality is superb even with cheap minus-r 4x discs (princo). No problems what so ever with the drive. (I had much problems with LG) According to Nero info tool, this drive supports Just Link (burnproof), Active Optimum Power Control and a few RAW modes. | Many Problems ? Unfortunately yes ! Goes back over the counter ! My ND2500A Firmware 1.06 has bad problems even recognising written or empty DVD-RW-media (TDK 1x, TDK 2x, Verbatim 1x checked so far)! It takes up to 20 seconds to load a DVD-Video on DVD-RW that is clearly readable even on different standalones. Bad dropout and crashes. He cannot even read what he just wrote !!!But it runs fine with 4x DVD+RW (TDK)! Hm. You NEC-guys come from the "+" coast, it seems. Please take also good care of the "-" ! Burst rate below 1MB/s ! | After 1 week of researching about what burner should I buy I took the ND-2500. The reason of course was the writing quality that reviewers reported. So, the first thing I did was: -bought the cheapest -r media (10pack of OPTODISCK001 about 1.05 each) -write 10 different movies -tested on JVC home theater and some Pc's Unfortunatelly the burner burnt at 2x (took 25 minutes) ---BUT--- the player accepted the disks and played JUST FINE!!! The only thing my ewes saw was 2 or 3 glitches (hip hops, or skip frames or what else on the entire movie). No chapter jump, nothing else! That's a great burner! | This is the way DVD burning SHOULD be ! I've just dumped my Optorite DD0203 and purchased the ND2500A. It burns everything the Optorite wouldn't, and all the disks play on everything including PS2. Only using x4 media at the moment as I have lots leftover that the Optorite used to turn into coasters. Burns PRINCO and Ritek G04's perfectly at x4. | Fantastic writer! My Sony DRU-500AX crapped out on me 8 days after the warranty expired so I was a little jaded. But this burner has proved fantastic so far. I am only using 4X Ritek -Rs right now but plan to try some 8X once they become a little more affordable. This drive also cut my read time down significantly. As has been mentioned, it runs VERY quietly and you hardly know its working. Got it for $117 from futurepowerpc.com. Good service and next day shipping. Thumbs up! | Kevin; The NEC ND2500A is a 8x burner but it will only burn some 4x media at 8x some at 6x. 8x media is on the way. I think you can get it some places on the net now. Read the post and look for others that have burned 4x media at 8x if you can get a hold of the same kind you may have the same luck. My 4x media from OD burns at 6x.
