| IVE HAD THIS BURNER FOR A FEW WEEKS NOW, AND I CANT EXPRESS HOW PLEASED I AM WITH IT. I WAS LOOKING INTO BUYING THE PLEXTOR 708A BUT DECIDED TO TAKE A CHANCE WITH THIS BAD BOY FOR $115. ITS A STEAL AND IVE BURNED ABOUT 15 DISCS(HP 4.7GB 4X DVD+R, MEMOREX 4.7GB 4X DVD+RW, COMP-USA 4.7GB 1-2X DVD-R) SO FAR AND HAVE YET TO MAKE A COASTER. BUY THIS DRIVE NOW, YOU CANT GO WRONG. | First the good news. I burned one 2X OptoDisk Gold DVD-R and one 2X OptoDisk DVD-RW. They both burnt fine. Nero CD Speed lines were very straight for both. Checked Kprobe on Lite-On 48161H combo drive. Kprobe results looked okay. Now the bad news. I burnt two Imation 2X DVD-R. These are high quality Ritek G03s packaged by Imation. I had burnt many of these with my Pioneer A04 with great results before. The NEC finished the burns but then it couldn't read them. I put them in the Lite-On combo drive and it managed to finish the Nero CD Speed test on one of them. The speed line looked terrible, one of the worst I've ever seen. The second one could not finish the Nero CD Speed test. It failed. This drive is going back. I've already placed my order for a Pioneer 107D. | Had the 2500A for a month now and really pleased - not had a coaster yet!! Woohoo!! Cos it's an NEC (apparently my other burner a Freecom external is just a rebadged NEC) I haven't tried -R but given the comments on here may well try!! Bulkpaq white 4x DVD+R and Datasafe Media 4x DVD+R both work great and apparently there is a new Firmware update due soon (1.07) which will help with 8x intergration. | ND-1100 is my first DVD writer and ND-2500A is my second. I love this both because both of them can burn out the excelent quality of DVD-movie and DVD game for my PS2. | a most excellent dvd writer and to a affordable price fast and not so fuzzy about which media to use, I have mainly used princo 1-4x dvd-r and I have only had 2-3 coasters because of freezing within a film at the last 2 chapters. I just bought 2 cakeboxes with dvd-r bulkpaq generation 4 4x to the low price of 195 swedish crowns thats about 24 us dollars. but this media is not so good for backing up dvd videos , however it works just fine with backing up xboxgames . and you can only burn this media at a speed of 2,4 even if it says 4x. but I am happy with the dvd writer, but I will not buy a large stock of dvd discs before I know that they are working flawlessly on my writer. | Just picked one up to replace the SLOOOOOOWWW but very reliable toshiba 5002 i have and just upgraded to the tweeked Bios. Burned Memorex 4X (DVD DECRYPT Detect PRODISCS03) at 4.3x in DVD Decrypter with DVD ISO file. Seems like a good investment so far. Paid $150 for my Toshiba less than 2 years ago and got this for $100. Isnt the new Millineum fantastic!!! Is there anyway we could start listing DVD blanks that burn great at higher than thier rated speeds since this is an 8x drive? | I just got this drive a few days ago from New Egg for $112. Not bad for an 8x burner. Only down side is that I can only rip at an average speed of 2x and max speed of 3x. This is even after flashing the drive with the Dangerous Brothers RPC1-1.06 firmware. I don't rip that often so it’s not that big of a deal. | I just bought this writer after much reading the forum and web, and I found it to be one of the best 8X writer deal around, plus it's NEC quality control. So far, After 3 DVD (DVD-ISO) burned, I have NO problem whatsoever with it. IT's quiet, and it works pretty fast. The only gripe I might have with it it's it's access seek time, it seems takes much LONGER than usual to seek the CD/DVD or whatever. Another thing, I found it weird that when I tried to use Smart Ripper with it, It gives me the error message "no aspi device found". | Got the ND2500 today, worked fine, nice and quiet, tried it with Nero 6.0 no problem except: it took 35 mins to "burn image for copy" and another 35 mins to write at 6x (TDK +R 4x disk) for 4.3 gig of movie,is that normal? I tried DVDX Express to back up a movie before it took much less time to burn a whole disk (15 mins to read and 15 mins to burn).Does anyone else has the same problem? My first attempts at making backups were made using DVDShrink 3.1.4 and Nero 6.3.0.2 on Philips 1-4x RW discs. The backups work flawlessly on my Philips DVD 751 player. I´ve also tried the discs on a Sony DVDP 335. As expected, no problems. The drive is very quite. I´ve since updated the Firmware to 1.06 and Herrie´s RPC1 version of 1.06. | After reading all the posts about this burner, I decided to purchase one. I received it early yesterday and I spent the entire day burning every kind of media I could get my hands on. Everything from 4x D-Well -r's, 4x Memorex -r's,TDK 4x +r's, it handled them all without a glitch. I have a Sony DRU500a also, which is very choosy on the type of media I can use.
