| Excellent DVD burner. I bought this in June of 2007 as a replacement for the Sony DRU-710A that started acting up. I like the SATA interface, easy to set up and seems to work better (faster throughput with less CPU, better multitasking), than the ATAPI variety. Like the other poster said, it is slow when ripping DVD's. I use a plain jane JLMS DVD-ROM for that which is much faster. Burning however, is fast and dependable. Far fewer errors and coasters than the Sony (rebadged Lite-On). As to media compatibility, works fine with all the major brands of +R, +RW, -R, and -RW. I just started experimenting with +R DL discs, and the LG works perfectly with Memorex. I tried a spindle of cheapo Nexxtech +R DL discs from Circuit City, and while they burn fine and play on the burner, they absolutely will not play in a Philips standalone DVD player, nor on the Xbox 360, nor on any standard DVD-ROM drive that is NOT a burner. The Nexxtech discs seem to be made by Ricoh, and the Memorex by Ritek. Stay away from Nexxtech and Ricoh with this drive. Lightscribe works fine on this drive, although I found myself re-burning the label a second time for more contrast. I would definitely recommend an LG burner to anyone.
