I received this drive from Plextor in an RMA exchange after my PX-760A failed under warranty. Previous to Plextor, I have owned three Pioneer drives, all of which performed well. My PX-760A was a superb product in every way, producing discs with low bit error rates, at high speeds. This drive, however, produces higher bit error rates than any of my previous drives mentioned above. In addition, it refuses to write on my Memorex DVD+RW 8x discs at more than 2.4X using Nero 6, and it won't write to them at all using Sony DVD Architect. These Memorex discs are Ritek media, branded by Memorex (media ID "Ritek 008," as reported by PlexTools). Most of the advanced writing strategies supported by my old PX-760A are not supported by this drive, and perhaps as a result of this, the error rates, when measured by a separate drive (i.e., I am measuring error rates on separate drive, so that I can compare exactly the errors from my old PX-760A using the same media, to those I get on this drive), are far higher than any of my older drives. This drive represents a major step backward for Plextor and I definitely cannot recommend that anyone purchase this drive. It is a shame, because the 760A was the best drive I ever owned. CLV = Constant Linear Velocity, the DVD is written at a constant speed. ZCLV = Zone Constant Linear Velocity, the DVD is divided into zones. After each zone the write speed is increased. PCAV = Partial Constant Angular Velocity, the DVD is being written at an increasing speed until a certain speed. After this speed it will not increase anymore.
