| Just got mine on previous day for actually $0.00 AR and with a coupon for 10.00 off 50.00 in purchase at OfficeMax. (Otherwise with coupon would have 9.99 AR.) So I can't complain re the price. Setup was easy and it is in fact a Toshiba product as noted in other comments. It is quiet and burned a DVD and CDR with no problems. A little bit slower than my Liteon 411 on DVDs and a good bit slower with CDRs. Both burns seem of high quality however. I use Value Discs for DVD-Rs and Memorex for CDRs. I did upgrade to the new firmware out there and I think that upgrade was mentioned in other person's comments. I only wish that it worked on DVD+R/RW's but for 0 bucks I can't complain. | I got mine on officemax.com for $9 (hopefully my rebate comes in :) ) But anyhow this is my first dvd burner and I must say it works great so far. Though it won't read one of my disks in a batch so far... but I think that's the disks problem not the writer itself. Anywho for $9 who could beat it? | I received mine from OM two days ago. Yes, it's a Toshiba SD-R5112 drive. It initially burned unnamed brand at 1x though it was certified 4x. After upgrading firmware it now burns at full speed. You can't beat this for the price. Those who bought this make sure you have upgraded your firmware to 1033. Download 1033 (Rev A) from http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?category=4&manufactor=31 . This will increase compatibility with lot more media. I first applied the H2H Super patch from http://lenni2004.narod.ru/ on the downloaded SDR5112-1033.exe file before actually upgrading the firmware. This makes the drive Region free and also assures 4x burning on most media. You can skip H2H step if you don't want to apply hack but it worked fine for me. Good luck! | I've updated mine to the 1033 firmware and it burns Memorex 4X media at 4X without any problems!For the price of $45 after rebates I can't beat it for a 4X DVD burner!Mine is a Toshiba SD-R5112 also. | I used this on 5 different types of Media. It worked great on TDK and Ritek, but only at 1X on 4X rated Memorex and Imation. The other type was Memorex RW, which was fine. Once burned, the DVD played on my two APEX players (1500 and 3201). I got rid of it, however, to buy a LiteOn LDW-451S, so I could have the option of +/- RW, and it seemed more compatible with a greater amount of media.
