| Good burner but lousy tech support. It has taken me about 5 months to figure out why I was getting BSOD in Vista when this burner was being used for DVD-RAM. No LG forum and I contacted LG tech support twice by phone and was given bad advice. First time they said it was likely a driver problem and that LG was working on a vista driver. After another couple of months I was told by a different tech contact (by phone) that drivers are the responsibility of Microsoft and that I should be contacting them for support. I got on the MSFT forum and learned how to use a registry modification to eliminate the Upper/Lower filters (whatever they are) and that solved the problem and the burner now works great. So the problem never was with the burner per se, but I would think that LG tech support could have directed me to the right cause rather than misdirecting me. | I just love this writer, only paid £23 in the UK and it has not given me 1 single coaster after 200 burns. I used to have a TS-H552U and every time I put more than about half an hour on a DVD it would jump and skip in almost all standalone DVD players no matter what media I used and with all firmware updates done, this has been a real breath of fresh air and seems to burn pefectly on just about any media at 8x. I have read some negatives about its performance on CDR's at high speed, but I have not tried any yet so can't comment. | Like all of the Renessas chipset LGs I've owned this is extremely media tolerant for writing. Can burn at 18x with many mediaIDs including MCC04, Sony. Slow ripping with SL01 firmware.
