| I just purchased this drive yesterday (6/26) from BestBuy, and I will go and return it todays as soon as they open. I have exactly the same problem as the first person. When I burn, it will stop working at 25-30%, and I have to kill the process. I tried 3 times, with same result every time. Then I tried to burn a CD using Nero, and it fails everytime at 32x speed, so, this drive is in my opinion no good. Comments posted by Jesper from United States, June 26, 2004. | I bought the unit from Best Buy because it was on sale. The re-sealed box brought up my suspicions, so I asked the salesperson if the unit was ok - I was assured it would be. I got it home and spent two days trying to make a backup data DVD. It wouldn't work. Firstly, it wouldn't burn any faster than 2x. Then the progress indicator would stop at 21% and the computer would freeze and lock up. I tried different DVD burning programs, same results. I tried different media, same problem. I consulted with Todd via online "live-chat" tech support and he said: "unfortunately some of the drives are having this same problem and there is currently no fix." I was instructed to return it to the store or mail it to them directly. I went to return it to Best Buy, then I find that the serial number on the unit was different from that on the box! They wouldn't let me return it - only exchange it (for a more expensive model!). I knew there was something wrong about that re-sealed box. There were three other boxes on their shelf sealed the same way. They didn't care, they were just happy to take my money. | hi, i've had my burner since x-mas 2004. when i first started burnin movies i had problems. but, they were my own mistakes.had about 5 costers.since i read the info on tyhios board and finally figured out how to rip & burn correctly no problems.i have not had a coster since. i also have burn with 5 different medias without a problem.i know this product hasn't recieved to many good reviews but it has worked great for me.it is a very good product. | Hello, I purchased DDVDRW8D on 1-25-2004 in local NJ BestBuy. Turnes out to be Optorite DD0401. However, Optorite DD0401 is OEM SANYO CRD-BPDV3! Had a non RPC-1 firmware version 120I. Loaded original Optorite DD0401 fimware version 120E no problem. For some reason version 130E availalbe for download does not have a BIN file in it. | Purchased 11/01/2003 and exchanged it two weeks later as per Tech Support at Digital Research. I have yet to burn a DVD that plays in any of my standalones or in DVD Drive itself. | Can you advise if you believe this is an OEM drive manufactured by another and re-branded as Digital Research? | Hello all!!!Just joined the forum , so looking forward to giving and receiving as much info as I possibly can.I recently purchased an I/O Magic 8x dvd/rw.It works like a charm.Obviously there is a speed difference in burning but only for +R media.I currently am using Arcsoft Showbiz package(not thrilled with it,but easy to use).The Record Now part of the package kind of gives me a gauge of speed for what I do.I could typically copy nearly full DVD's at about 15 mins.,(HP dvd300i burner)with the I/O Magic burner it takes about 5 - 6 mins. for a copy to be made.I haven't tried burning CD's with it yet(40x rated speed)probably never will but it seems to have higher than rated read speeds especially for CD copying.Anyone out there with one of these units or something similar please post your comments.Thanks guys!!!
