| I am posting again but only voting once. This drive gets better all the time, I really love the speed at cd-r mode, I can burn at 40x using TDK 16X rated media. TDK 4X DVD+R always burns at 8X so far no coasters. I just bought some media from newegg. Its a 100 pk for 93 bucks 4X DVD+R media Arita DVD+R 4.7G 4X Single Sided Write Once Media 100pk, I hope it works good the reviews of this media are good. | NEw christmas present ($150 delivered from AllStar). After updating bios off website, have burned 1 Memorex 4X +R movie, One DVD home movie and a PS2 game. All worked on my Sony DVD player but I have an old Apex (first generation) DVD player that wouldnt get past the beginning screen for some reason. Flashed the player and worked like a champ! After watching for this drive to come out and staying on top of everyone's comments (i.e. bios fixes and media types) I had no problems getting up and running and authoring DVDs within 30 minutes...and no coasters. | Got one as a chistmas gift. Hooked i up today. Tried burning Memorex DVD+RW using Nero 6. Burn went allright, but the disc was not readable after! Made another try - no luck again. Then tried the (noname) RW disk that came with the recorder. Went well!. Funny i can't use Memorex RW's. Lots of work fot the manufactors to be done on DVD-burners yet before they are stable. | Great burner. Burned Memorex +R, Sony +R, and TDK +R sucessfully at 8x. Erases pretty fast too with Sony +RW. I use Nero 6, DVD2one, DVDShrink (beta), and IMGTools. | Bought it a week ago. The burner installed no problems. Someone mentioned the flimsy tray - I noticed this as well. Updated to the latest firmware and burnt the first disk (Using DVD shrink and DVDCOPY) perfectly using the +RW disk that was supplied with the drive. I then tried the +R and it burnt at 8x no problems. Do any of you people know what type of media this is (there is nothing in the manual and I was very happy with the results)? I bought a pack of ten Memorex 4x +R media at the same time as the drive and I have yet to burn a DVD that works (tried numerous burning programs and settings - five coasters so far). I am in the process of trying different types of media to see which ones work best with this burner - TDK is next on the list. Overall - I am happy - 148 bucks for an 8x is outstanding - but I would REALLY like to find some consistent (and hopefully cheap) media that works with this drive. | The first DVD Writer I had was a Ricoh and it worked O.K, but I also have a Laptop with a DVD Writer that works on -R and the Ricoh worked on +R so I took the plunge and upgraded to the Liteon (Dual Format & Faster :-) When I first installed it I tried to Rip a DVD to the harddrive using DVDshrink and it took ages. Then I remembered a thread that said something about PIO & DMA etc, when I checked, the Liteon was using PIO, a quick change and it took 15 minutes to rip a Full DVD to the Hard Drive. On the writing Front, first attempt was a coaster....... it was a 'Problematic' disc so I then decided to give it a better chance and do something I knew it could do! I ripped a DVD to Harddrive and then burnt it, it took over 16 Minutes to write a full DVD @ 4X....Uhmmm...... Wheres the 8X I thought...a quick surf on the Net and a upgrade of the Firmare to HS0E and it now appears in Nero as 8X, same DVD took just under 9 Minutes to write and it worked a treat in my DVD Player! | Having just bought the new Liteon 8x writer I immediatly tried it (off course). Installation went with any trouble (WIN XP). Drive is recognised in Nero 5.5.10.54. DVD+R Arita 4x: However with initial firmware only at 4 speed. Downloaded and installed new firmware HS0E. After that DVD was identified as 8x burnable. Burnt an full disk at 8 min. 30 sec without a glitch. Played perfectly an my stand alone DVD player (Yamaha 530) Soo far...perfect. I will test the drive the coming with with different brands and speeds as well DVD+ as - as R and RW. Will post update if appicable. Comments posted by Hans from Other, December 14, 2003. | I just installed this burner and was disappointed at first because I was not able to get it to write at 8X in DVD+R mode using any media, I only buy the best mostly TDK 4x media. I read that the plextor can write at 8X. After a firmware upgrate from there website I am now able to write at 8X. I made a copy of X-MAN 2 in 8 minutes and it plays fine in my Home DVD player. It is a very short drive but thats not an issue. After opening the cd rom the caddy seems a little flimsy to me, it is not the quallity I would expect from Lite-on. Its still a good deal for $149.00.
