| I must admit I already had a Samsung SH-S162L before this one which last only six months, then died. However, I was so pleased with the "strong" burninig results of it that I decided to give Samsung a second chance and buyed this one (31.95 EURO). I burned with succes on Sony (at 16x), Princo, Nashua, Verbatim SL and Verbatim DL. I have a Sony DVP-NS300 DVD player which is a very critical reader. | Burns really well with memorex lightscribe dvd+r at 16X. it reads all the discs that i have put in it so far, but i have this problem, where the audio on the dvds that i play is really low. Well, it's not really the audio, it's more like the dialogue in the movie, but the sound effects are real loud. Could this be caused by something else? IDK, some help would be nice. | I was An Avid Pioneer user So I took a chance and F_ _ _ _ing A this one actually burns at 16x and 18x too. I could only get the pioneer to burn at 16x on certain DVD+R media and the DVD-RAM is A big plus 12x no Less even though only 5x available at this time only available in OEM but came with Nero and samsung hassle free firmware update and that worked too.Also Lightscribe I'm in heaven Hey pioneer pay attention I payed $31.99 At Micro center w/coupon but regular price is 49.99 the other model without lightscribe is on sale for $29.99 it has the same features as this model.Buy it Comments posted by Faceless44 from United States, November 23, 2006. | Seems to be a good, solid, fast burner according to the 3 MID's I've tried so far. Equals or betters my NEC 3550A and BenQ DW1650 on Verbatim MCC004, RiTEK R03, and CMC MAG AE1 media burns. Read and rites DVD-RAM at 12X and reads both 90 and 99 minute audio CD's. 18X recording is limited to just 4 MID's currently - the MCC004 being one. 18X on the MCC004 is pretty remarkable in that it produces 97 Nero Disc Quality scores using the BenQ DW1650 scanner (8ECC) and 95 if scanned on the S182M (1ECC) Not a fast reader, though - 8X max on all DL discs including OPT and PPT pressed discs. Hopefully this is not hardware limited and is firmware correctable. It will however read at 16X on SL pressed discs, and at 12X on SL DVD-R's. Since at this writing, there are only 2 18X burners available in the US, the other being the $100 Plextor; and this is less than half the Plextor price and includes DVD-RAM and LightScribe; it should be on the short list of anyone currently looking to purchase a DVD rewriter. For those willing to wait, Optiarc (the Sony/NEC joint venture) will have an 18X unit soon and Lite ON is reported to have a 20X burner on the horizon. For right now, the S182D/M may be as good as you can get with regards to DVD recording and hopefully the read speeds will be upped. Comments posted by toobad from United States, September 09, 2006. PCAV = Partial Constant Angular Velocity, the DVD is being written at an increasing speed until a certain speed. After this speed it will not increase anymore.
